We had Springers when I was growing up. Before the days of leash laws.
When I was 8 months pregnant with my first child, I got a Springer puppy (just couldn't wait that last month to be a Mom...). He was a handful!
When people came to visit he would be so excited that he would pee on their feet. He had a long run in the back yard, but that was never quite enough for him. When he managed to slip out of the house (we had 3 small children...) he was SOOOOO fast. We had to drive around the neighborhood looking for him - he loved to ride in the car, so he would jump in the back (and then we had him!!!). If we didn't catch him, he would bark at people in their own yards... We put a baby gate at the top of the stairs in our split entry house so he wouldn't charge the front door. He would stand at the (24"?) baby gate, jump over it and land at the bottom of the stairs - no running start.
He had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever when he was 2 (the only dog in 10 years in our state to get RMSF). We almost lost him. He died of cancer at age 9. That was 11 years ago. My keychain still is a picture of a springer that looks just like he did.
I have 2 Cocker Spaniels now. They are a little calmer, and a little smaller (it was impossible to take my springer on a leash...), but have such pretty eyes and ears and are so soft.

I loved hearing about your springer! We, too, have baby gates up all over the house. When guests come (like my book group) she gets up next to them, licks their faces and sticks to them like glue until she feels she's gotten an adequate (and very extensive) welcome. At least half the group does NOT want to do that! She pees with excitement, too, though not on anyone's foot yet. We take her to a park where she can usually run and swim off-leash, but twice a park policeman has come up behind me, stealthily and quietly, on a HORSE, and handed me a 20 dollar ticket for disobeying the leash law!
You'd think we would learn, as she is our second springer, but the truth is we are helplessly in love with her beauty and tremendous joy in life. Even if I leave the house for five minutes to mail a letter, I get an all-out welcome when I return, including a wonderful circular dance all around me, which ends with her jumping about three feet into the air while she completes two full aerial turns. She's a great AD all by herself- I'd choose her over an SSRI any day (not that I always have a choice).
