Well, My name is .... my name. Many many years ago, my SN was Andante. That was back when AOL was still using version 1.x, ran under DOS, and the internet was still 'new'. After moves, children in the house, etc. I dropped AOL, and couldn't get the SN back when I got back on-line.
Deirdre though has a beautiful, albeit sad story associated with it. It is Celtic in origin, and so I have both the Celtic and French (last name) in my name.

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon
The first time anyone refers to a book without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

Thanks!

Maybe I should change the thread title to Why did you pick your screen name?

Mine came from the words 'ice cube', I like how an ice cube melts so slowly to reveal its inner self (and can can have its insides crushed to a pulp by an unkind person).
I did't want to be ice_cube though, because that makes me sound cold - and I'm not, I promise!

Penny is the name of one of my dogs. It's more of a 'real' name than the name of my other dog.

Great thread! The name Madwand comes from Roger Zelazny's Changling saga. In that universe, potential wizards were normally detected earlier and apprenticed so they could be guided into their powers. This process involved what they called "the setting of the lights" in which their magical awareness becomes aligned with agreed-upon magical paradigms.
Occasionally there were those whom were overlooked, and came into their powers without the traditional guidance. They were referred to as "madwands". Often their "lights" would become set in bizarre and unusual patterns. Generally these
wizards did not survive, either going completely mad or managing to blow themselves up. If they did survive they often approached magic from a radically different direction and had the potential to become quite powerful.
The jury is still out, but I haven't blown myself up quite yet.

My name: I have gotten my feet wet a little into Buddhism. However, I have not really soaked it all up. I guess you can say that I have really been seeking a spiritual mentor. (??) This sounds so silly probably. I am more of a spiritual person and I am basically looking for someone to take me under their wing and help me find my niche. Does that make sense to anyone? Anyhow, I have read some Thich Nhat Hanh and other writings. I have visited a temple here. They have a children's service, however, my two year old is so clingy and goes into an anxiety attack. I sometimes second guess this AP stuff. I am also a Kerouac reader. As you may guess, I am also a Mama.

I guess I'm not very original. The "B" is for my last name and because one of my sons occasionally calls me "MamaB" The rest is history -- I have five sons; ages 22 to 31. So I guess it could stand for "Mother of Boys" too.
Please, no jokes about having our own basketball team, I've heard them all!

I LOVE ALL THESE POSTS !!!
It feels so nice to have something personal to associate with the names we see on the babble screen.
Mama is a wonderful name. Even for those whose memories of childhood are wanting, we all have an idea of the warmth that should be associated with mother.
You sound like a very down to earth lady who can handle haveing 5 sons.

I chose mine because I do admire wildflowers. They are able to flourish anywhere - even in the ugliest of situations - and they bring joy to so many people.

My dad is a master-gardener and he thinks Daisies are weeds. I love them because they are strong and grow almost anywhere. They enhance other flowers instead of shining on their own. I had yellow roses and daisies in my bridal bouquet. I am hoping to "flower" into a Daisy one of these days!

Funny you should ask. My husband is 1/2 Irish-American. Most Irish spellings are strange--my SIL is named Siobhan, pronounced "Shavawn". "Colleen" is probably the Irish name you're half-remembering.I just didn't want to use my "real name" so I tweaked it a little.
Interesting how naming fashions change. When I was a kid the girls were named Lori/Laurie, Susan, Linda, Denise, Lisa, Deborah, Karen, Nancy, etc.
My daughter's friends are named Seana, Jessica, Jennifer, Heather, Ashley, Brittany, etc. My son's friends are named Sam.

I know I'm real new to this site, so I thought this might help me let others know about me. My SN stands for my first name and sun stands for Sunkist, a knick name I had for years. 58 stands for my birth year.

thankyou Femlite! Actually I did post a reply to this topic but I either closed the window on the confirm page or some cyber goblin took it (happens a lot to me).
My name comes from wordplay on my real name.
As Im very pessimistic by nature I just cant accept that using ones real name will not lead to trouble. Though I must admit I always feel those using real names seem really genuine but then I start wondering whether it's just a pseudonym that cleverly looks like someone's real name. See, these things dont bear too much thinking about. cheers,
