Sorting, sorting

Posted by Tabitha on September 7, 2003, at 15:13:59

I've just sorted my CDs, sheet music, sewing supplies, knitting/crochet/beading/wirework, ceramics, painting, and inline skating stuff. Not only my stuff, but my mom's stuff too. I don't actually engage in any of these pasttimes lately, but boy are my supplies tidy! All bagged and binned. Insect-proofed. No more moths in the wool or silverfish in the papers.

Dang, it's just all there, waiting for someone to dive in and make something. Hmm.. I think I'd rather sit and drink coffee and do nothing.

I'm afraid of sorting. Every time I start there are more piles at the end than when I started.

You will become my inspiration. The task is enormous.

Hey mash, haven't seen you around these parts in a while.

Don't get inspired yet.. a lot of stuff is still all strewn about on the floor. I'm trying to visualize the completed job, all the bins stacked neatly in the designated storage area. I'll get there... I think I can, etc.

I'm in awe. Really. I have no organization skills whatsoever. I even bought that "Oprah" recommended book - "Organizing from the Inside Out" - but I couldn't even get started, b/c her first step is to LIST EVERYTHING you own. Yeah, right. The thought behind that being that then you can look at what you have, figure out categories, and see what kinds of containers you need to put things in.

Me - I can't categorize. Most of my stuff falls under "miscellaneous."

List everything? My goodness. For people paralyzed by clutter, imagine what a paralyzing task that would be!

Reminds me of the book """, about organizing your financial life.. the first step is to write down every penny you've ever earned in your life. They insist this is essential! Then start tracking every penny you spend.

I just un-earthed my unfinished knitting project cache. I previously encountered the yarn, but now, the actual knitted pieces. So many hours spent, and I have no memory of doing most of it.

Oh, and last night I worked on a crewel embroidery project originally started in 1976. It's a corny scene of rabbits in a forest that I thought was soooo charming. I'm considering actually finishing the thing. It would be some kind of headline-worthy miracle, don't you think? 'Woman Completes Embroidery Project Begun 27 Years Earlier'. But, ack, I'm not sure I can get through it. I already worked the interesting parts back when I was 12.
