Little girl + construction workers:heartwarming

Posted by Gracie2 on January 19, 2003, at 15:17:27

This is truly a heart-warming story about the bond formed between a little girl and some construction workers. This makes you want to believe in the goodness of people, and gives you hope for the human race.

A young family moved into a house next door to a vacant lot. One day a construction crew showed up and started work on a new house in the empty lot.
The young family's 6-year-old daughter took interest in the activity next door and eventually the construction crew, a group of gems-in-the-rough, more or less adopted the little girl as a kind of project. They chatted with her, let her sit with them during coffee and lunch breaks, and gave her little jobs to do to make her feel important. On payday, they presented the little girl with an envelope, and inside was a paycheck
for one dollar.

The little girl was thrilled, and rushed home with the envelope. Her mother was touched by the construction crew's thoughtfulness. She told her daughter that the next day, they would go to the bank and open a savings account with the little girl's first paycheck.

When they got to the bank, the teller was very impressed by the little girl's story. "I worked all last week," the little girl said, holding up the pay envelope for the teller to see, "and I did such a good job that they gave me this!"
"My goodness!" said the teller. "And will you be working on the house next week, too?"
The little girl said, "I will if those useless sons of bitches at Home Depot ever bring us drywall that's worth a shit!"

Sorry, I just HAD to share that one.
