I feel like CRAP today!

Posted by mikhail99 on January 15, 2003, at 13:50:19

I started having bad anxiety last night and I thought it was because I was so tired and then had WAY too much coffee. But it's leaked over into today and I can't believe what a monster anxiety is, how it feeds on itself. As it gets worse, I forget to do the positive self-talk and it spirals out of control. I just want to shut my brain OFF!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm just hating every little thing about myself and my life and then I feel guilty for doing that. sigh.

Ugh, sorry to hear that Mikhail. I know the feeling. I can't stand anxiety.

Positive self-talk is great, but do you have any benzos or other anti-anxiety drugs on hand? It might stop the cycle of anxiety feeding more anxiety. Or even feeling anxious about feeling anxious.

Hope you feel better soon,

Dinah

Thanks Dinah and no, I don't have any anti-anxiety meds. Why, I don't know? I guess I should but I don't function well on that stuff. Not that I'm functioning so well right now either but stuff like xanax puts me right to sleep. Which I guess would be useful, I wouldn't have to think about this stuff I'm obsessing about.

I know, I'm a mess! :-D And not making any sense! OY!

Thanks again Dinah, I appreciate your thoughts! I just have to remember I'm not always like this.

Hi Mik,

Sorry you are having a rough day. Anxiety sucks. If I had a good idea for you, I would surely send it. I don't. All I can ever do is let it ride it's course.

I do sometimes get relief from reading kid's books. I know it sounds silly, but when I read a children's book that I haven't in a while or one I have never read, it makes me feel better.

One book I had when I was a kid was called "One kitten for Kim" It was about this boy, Kim, whose cat had kittens. The litter was about 8 or so. Well, his mom told Kim he needed to get rid of all the kittens but one. He could keep one kitten for himself.

So, Kim loads his wagon with all the kittens. The first house he goes to, he explains he has to get rid of the kittens. The lady said yes, she will take a kitten - BUT- only if he will take her daughter's pet lizard. Kim agrees.

The next house take two kittens but he has to take two puppies in trade. The next house, fish, and on it goes.

By the end of the book, Kim has one kitten, two puppies, one lizard, some fish, a bunny, a bird, and a snake (or something just as creepy.)

The last page shows Kim running home with his wagon full of all his new pets with him saying "Hey mom!! Guess what?"

There, did that help?

And the funniest part of this is that even though I made the link to Amazon work, it has probably been out of print since 1970!!!!!

I am glad it helped. Take care of yourself.
