I'm sure you picked that name for a reason. I've been gardening for almost 30 years so am curious if there's lots growing around your place? And where do you live (just a general area)?

I live in the mountains of Idaho (NW USA for those not from the US).
Syringa is the state flower of Idaho,
thats my name.
We have many wild flowers growing here in
the spring but syringa has quite a long
historial significance here.

Thanks for asking.

While I lived on the Prairies (wasn't too fond of that part of the country), the lilacs were a definite highlight of my time there. There was a lilac hedge between my place & the neighbours. It was solid & filled with blooms from about 4 feet up to the top about 12 feet. The air smelled heavenly for those few short weeks. I'd plant my vegetable garden, next to the hedge, to the constant happy drone of bees buzzing among the blossoms. Where I live now, the lilacs never get so magnificent. They love the alkaline soil like the prairies had. Here, it's better suited to rhodos, heather, & other acidic plants.
