Tina,
I think you are very brave for sharing your PLAN. I will share mine as well. Feel free to use any or all of it if necessary. I researched a lot of it to make sure my next time will be the last time.

Does anyone know how many sleeping pills it takes to acheive a successful suicide? Is there a doctor in the house? Maybe Dr. Bob would like to field that question.
That would be an awesome experiment: take 50 depressed people and give them 5 definate ways to commit suicide. What percentage of those 50 people would use the knowledge? We could make studying this "disease" a lot easier with solid numbers. I wonder why I was never consulted whne they were planning this site. I have such good ideas and so much to offer...

Miller, I don't know quite what but I had to say something. Denying the temptation of suicide would be more than ridiculous, I've attempted myself.
However, i.m.o gratuitously 'sharing' your plan and advice, when it sounds to me as if you are in a different head space right now, than Tina
I think is careless to say the least. There are plenty of places to find plans for suicide. I don't believe this board is or should be one of them.
Don't try and peg me as someone who denies the reality of the situation, or the right of an individual to choose.
I don't believe that someone reaching out to others indirectly perhaps, but Tina is still with us.. has fully made her choice. She knows your option is there, thats the easy part when one is depressed.
We are here for support, to get through the fog and remind her that the good things are just as real just not apparent in the throes of depression.
Its not a bunch of words.
We know Tina, and truly care about who she is and what we know to be special about her.
The option of suicide is too readily thought of for all of us. I believe we are here to try and at least even the playing field.

I can't believe you would offer such "advice" on a site like this where posters are often already in a fragile emotional state & what Dr. Bob has stated is for support! What sort of support is your advice supposed to be??
What could possibly be "awesome" (your words) about your experimental idea on suicide? Perhaps Josef Mengele would share your enthusiasm if he were still around, but I think what you might offer with your "good ideas" (your words again)only fill most, if not all, of us with disgust. How would discovering how many people use offered knowledge of methods of suicide to successfully commit suicide further the study of this "disease"?
I'm biting my tongue as I write this as what I'd like to say would not be allowable here under any circumstances. I find your idea so thoroughly repugnant! I would really like to meet you face-to-face to see what sort of individual you really are. Are you for real?

Well, IsoM, you really didn't leave me any choice about this, did you? I'm sure that you know the drill by now, but here's the URL re civility.

*Whatever* you feel, please don't express it on PB unless it's supportive or educational.
And, of course, please take further comments about this to PBA.
Regretfully, medlib

I think -- at least, I hope -- that the post you're responding to was written at least in part as a DIScouragement to tina. Kinda like the way I posted the same sorts of statements some of us have made at various times about life -- only changed to more trivial issues.
At any rate, self censorship can be a good thing or a bad thing or an impossible thing. Self censorship because you're aware that what you really want to say could be hurtful to another, or could be more than they can take in at the time -- that's good self-censorship.
Self censorship because you're afraid that what you want to say is so terrible, and marks you forever as the total loser you think you are -- that's bad SC.
SC because you're afraid someone else will attack you for what you truly believe you should say -- that's bad SC.
And SC that's impossible because you're simply too sick to avoid saying whatever comes into your head -- well, that's why some people need support, right?
So, for whatever reasons Miller posted that message -- which I took as legitimate thoughts on how to be supportive while also displaying a warped mind (my own favorite kind -- Star Trek watcher warped, not stalking William Shatner warped) -- if the idea of support was there, it shouldn't have to match anyone else's to be posted.
'Course, while I may not agree with what you say, I'll still defend your right to say it freely.

I think Miller is supposed to get one too. I don't think Dr. Bob allows us to post suicide suggestions here, for obvious reasons.

I had already asked Dinah for her opinion before I posted the message above. I wasn't confident that my inclinations re Miller's plans were sufficiently objective. When we didn't hear from Dr. Bob this morning, Dinah was kind enough to reply to Miller for me.
