Does anyone else experience this?....

Posted by kamikazi_ladybug on November 19, 2002, at 9:14:40

When I wake up in the morning I have an extreme amount of energy. I make all the beds in the house, clean up from the night before, scrub floors etc. Within 2 hours I am done for. On top of the energy, I shake uncontrollably, until I take my meds, then the shaking subsides some. I usually shake most of the time. Sometimes alot sometimes a little. I almost always have a nervous stomach.

Um, what kind of meds are you on? Have you been dx'd with anything that could explain the shaking? Are you taking any street drugs or drinking copious amounts of coffee when you wake up?

Have you seen a dr. about this? I'd actually make an appt. It kind of reminds of a time when my thyroid was overtreated and I was hyperthyroid. (This is when your thyroid is too fast.) I felt pushed to run and run, like an inner motor, but then I would feel exhausted and -- had trouble sleeping nontheless. But all kinds of things other than thyroid plms could cause these symptoms.

Get a comprehensive blood test done, that's the first thing to get out of the way. thyroid, H. Pylori (bacteria that leads to peptic ulcer), and vitamin deficiencies (like iron, B's, etc.) should all be checked out, and any irregularities be smoothed out. Then after you re-test after any problems were found and corrected, you and your doctor can feel less vague about zoning in on what's causing all of this.

Maybe even a whole new physical, from your current GP or new one. Make sure to mention it not just to your p-doc-- p-docs may sometimes get so use to assuming the chemical origins to problems that they sometimes forget the basics might cause glitches to occur, like heart problems, thyroid, etc... so don't rely on your p-doc to answer your questions, this is something that your GP should comprehensively examine, then your p-doc review it, and if by that point your p-doc can't resolve it, he'll refer you to a neurologist.

this is just standard stuff. It'll be reassuring for you to know that your GP has tested all he can with your blood and urine, that your vitamins and hormones are okay, or if not, you know exactly what to resolve to make them better.

Just remember that resolving an irregualarity, while critical to your health, may not resolve your problem, because they may not be related to your troubles.

In the mean time, while you're waiting for blood tests and the like, have you tried a stimulant like Adderall or Provigil or Dexedrine to keep you normalized during your lulls? Have you considered re-adjusting your sleep time? Maybe even going to sleep earlier even if it's not natural for you to do so (through sleeping pills) or waking up later (if your situation allows it)?

I'm more concerned over your shaking than your fatigue, although I'm not a doctor and don't have a clue. Have you tried a B-100 supplement? Or at least testing your B counts? The B's provide energy (not execessive, just normal energy in cases of atypical fatigue) and help heal damaged nerve cells. Shaking... sounds like nerves are frayed, possibly. Again, I'm making this up, I'm not a doctor.

Anyway, I take a B-100 complex (I'm vegan), Iron pill (I'm vegan), Lecithin (for nervous system, although I've never read any research on it), Vitamin E (for acne, although this is not clinically established) and Vitamin C as needed for mild sickness.

I'm a morning person- feel great for first couple of hours, then come crashing down at about 11 or 1 or so, enter a few hours of lull time, come up again... but I'm going to try taking Adderall during my lull to offset this, see what happens.

But seriously, what time do you go to sleep? Let's say you wake up at 8AM. Think about trying to go to sleep at 9PM for a solid week with the help of a sleeping pill (Benadryl or Ambien or Sonata). This shouldn't be unorthodox in your case, since it's possible inducing heavy amounts of sleep may resolve your problems... although it seems more complicated than this, it's worth a shot?

By "shaking" do you mean like you look like a heroin addict entering detox?

Seriously, no joking- I got shaking and chills when I went of Vikoden (only on it for one month as prescribed). Do you get chills? Is it continous shaking, or more of a nervous tic that comes and goes every few moments? Your entire body, does it shake?

What meds are you taking? If they are habit-forming, it's possible you are experiencing withdrawl from them, and should pose this with your doctor.

Relating back to my Vikodin withdrawl, I also had severe stomach bloating and pain, along with diarreah for a week. Then I tried the new Immodium AD + Gas pill, and it went away just like that. wow.

Oh, try baking soda, 1 teaspoon, or 2 if needed. But don't take it often, and don't take it with food- it'll cause your food not to be absorbed into nutrients, causing malnutrition.

No street drugs, no drinking, no coffee my dx..honestly I'm not sure, when I called I was told severe depression and panic (thats what was in the computer). Haven't seen a dr.
I take topamax (have been on that for over a year), seroquel, prozac and adderall. I thought maybe the adderall was the culprit so I stopped taking it, but the same thing happened. I have always had the shaking, maybe its a nervous thing?
Thank you for responding!!

I recently went to the GP and had a full range of tests done. Seems that my body and mind are not getting along LOL. All my tests seemed to be "normal" and I was given a diagnosis of fibromyalgia.

I do take Adderall, and thought that may have been the reason for the shakes, but even without it the shakes are there. Honestly, I have pretty much always had the shakes.

I do take biotin, basically for my hair loss with the topamax. Also a multivitamin. Should I also add a B vitamin on top of that? I didn't know that Vitamin E helped with acne, I think I will start that one today!!! Thank you for that tidbit! I don't have full blown acne, but well my face breaks out in stressful times.

With the seroquel, my sleep is ok. Actually even with taking 300 mgs. a night I still get broken sleep. At one point I was a zombie, but I guess after getting used to the meds now it doesn't affect me as much. I often wonder what a non-medicated induced sleep would feel like!

Anyway, I thank you for your response.

the kind of shaking..I don't get chills. My hands just shake. Not my whole body. Not really continuous. Usually it subsides after I take my meds or even after I get up and calm myself down.

I take topamax, seroquel, prozac and adderall

I'm butting in here, and I may be way off base, but I thought it might be worth posting.

My grandmother and her siblings had what was Dx'd as "familial tremors", which may or may not be a form of Parkinson's. I think it began with them in their mid 50s to 60s, although I know you are much younger than that. Anyhow, it was quite predominant in her family. All her siblings that I knew had it, except maybe one. It is still a little early to tell about my parents' generation.

My point is that when her hands are at rest, they don't shake. But if she tries to do something with them, they are uncontrollable. Not flailing around all over, but weak and very shaky.

I don't think this is the cause of your problem, but I thought I'd give you a heads up because trembling can be a symptom of some serious diseases. You should get it checked if it doesn't get better. And you should mention it to your GP or Gyn at the next visit whether it improves or not. I'm not trying to scare you, but I'm just telling you what I would do.

Good luck, and keep us posted...
