> I am taking “feminist political philosophy” in college. Learning about radical feminism and their campaign against the subordination of women has made me wonder about the political theory of the mentally ill. It is clear to me that the mentally ill are subordinated by the majority of society who may blame mental illness on those that have it. Some even claim that mental illness is invented by those who suffer from it. Why isn’t there more political activity in order to combat the stigma associated with mental illness. How can I get involved with campaigns against the debilitating stigma of mental illness?

Perhaps you've seen this already, but it's a good place to start:

They have a program called "Stigmabusters," which I believe has been responsible for some radio and TV spots.

Have you read _The Loony Bin Trip_, by Kate Millett?

we really have a lot of power, if you think about it. if we were to organize a campaigna and go on a march, nobody would dare get in our way or try and upset one of us. May be it is just me, but i also feel that i am being handled with velvet gloves, very carefully. people are afraid that i will have a nervous breakdoen on the spot or something. a week ago i went to the financial aid office b/c my school funding and living expense loan stuff is a month late, they keep messing it all up. sitting in a lady's office, all it took was a comment by me that i am out of meds and have no money and that it was very bad for me to be out of meds and i feared for my safety as a result. they fast-tracked my money through that day. I feel like going "booo!" and making them jump back a few feet.
