Sandra Dee Fiona, anyone with Mom problems.....

Posted by Gabbi on August 12, 2002, at 15:15:33

I was talking to my Pdoc yesterday, a man who is in his 50's has several university degrees, is the head of psychiatry at two hospitals and a consultant for many others. Despite his credentials he's also an incredibly wise and caring human being.

I told him how often I mention him on this board, but said I don't use your name of course, I just call you Superdoc, and I feel really fortunate to have you as my Psychiatrist. You know what his response was?

Could you please put that in a letter to my mother.

(maybe she always wanted him to be in the ballet)

YOu are indeed lucky!! Mine's good but...... (nm)

you actually wrote him that "letter of recommendation" and maybe even addressed it to his mom or something? You could tell him you knew it was a joke of sorts, but that you seriously appreciate him and his efforts and wanted to show it (okay, maybe too corny) hahaha.
Glad to hear you are sounding better. I'm typing away. I'm going to go paint our guest bathroom soon - kids are napping so now it my only chance! HAHA

now that would be funny:) (nm)

Hello!

The most amazing thing happened today. I was having a panic attack this morning and phoned my sister because my bags were not working. She couldn't get away so she called my mum and my mum came over to see me. After I had calmed down we had a cup of tea and a chat (a REAL chat). We talked about my illness and about my psychiatrist and about the work I was doing in therapy. And do you know what? She just listened. LISTENED! For the first time in my life I had a meaningful conversation with my mother, can you believe it? I am amazed. Geez, I must be doing some progress after all!
How are things with you? Hope that you are ok,

Fiona

Fiona! That's great news! » fiona

To someone that has a beautiful relationship with their mom, that might not seem like a big deal, but I do know how meaningful it is. That is so nice when those happen. Keep it up and hope for the best with mom, don't do like I tend to sometimes: "so when is it gonna go back to the REAL mom"... hahahahaha I really mostly think positively, but once in a while those negative ones sneak their way into my thoughts.
I'm also proud of you for calling someone when you were feeling the need. That's also a big step. Be well!

That must be such a huge relief, healthy or not healthy I don't know, but Mothers can have such a huge effect on your life more than you even thought they did sometimes. Don't be surprised if she snaps into ugly mode now and again, but it shows, that she's really trying to learn and be supportive and thats the important part. I'm really happy for you. :.)

Gabbi.
