I can't wake up

Posted by Rach on July 18, 2002, at 23:06:37

I'm not having so many problems falling asleep these days. But now I can't wake up. I sleep through four different alarms, and many telephone calls. I do wake up when these things happen, but not enough to be able to get myself thinking abd realising why these noises are happening. I wake up just long enough to stop the noise, and then I immediately fall asleep again.

I've missed so many morning appointments because of this. How can I get myself to wake up?

Sounds like maybe you are taking some medication that is having this effect on you??? Do you take something to get to sleep at night? If so, maybe it's too strong. Otherwise, I'm just rambling and talking nonsense because I'm up and can't sleep because I felt the same way in the daytime and slept the entire day away. Ok, now I really am rambling and I'll bet you can't make any sense out of any of this at all. Oh well, I tried. Sorry I couldn't help.

I had this problem when I mixed Ambien with lorazepam (Ativan) and also when I mixed Ambien with ibuprofen (Advil). When I first started Depakote, this was a common occurrence, but it diminished with time.

For me, the best way to force my sleep to a particular cycle (like curing jet lag) is to take 10 mg Ambien combined with 0.25 - 0.5 mg of lorazepam. I am out cold for a minimum of 10 hours, sometimes extending to 12+ hours.

I have that problem much of the time. Sometimes sunlight coming in the windows helps. Also moving the radio across the room. Mistuning the clock radio so it's half static (not totally) is incredibly annoying - sometimes enough to get me out of bed to shut it up. The best solution I've found is conditioning a pet that the alarm clock means breakfast but if you do that you may never be able to sleep late again.

I'd love to hear what works for other people as none of these do it for me all of the time.

Really, I've given that same advice verbally, and in writing so many times.. Its has an Ellen Degeneres quality to it. I'm glad you posted it.

Gosh, I had just reread my response earlier today and had no recollection of even posting it. I thought I sounded like a moron. Guess that happens when you don't get enough sleep, which is my usual state. Up all night, sleep the whole morning, and so the cycle continues and then when I post it doesn't make much sense at all to anybody else but me. LOL!!!

At least somebody got something out of my gibberish. :)
