Ethnicity question

Posted by bookgurl99 on June 27, 2002, at 23:46:15

Hey, out of curiosity, and with good intent, what is everyone's ethnicity?

I'm asking because I realized I tend to visualize everyone on the board as white unless told otherwise. And I realized this is ridiculous considering that I'm only half white, my gf is asian, and there are numerous races than white in the world.

So, me? My mom is from Puerto Rico, my Dad's from the U.S. -- a blend of English, Irish, Norwegian, Frenhc. Mom won out influence-wise; I know it's a stereotype, but I'm passionate and hot-blooded, have dark hair and use my hands when I talk. (I also wear thick glasses, have a short haircut, and tend to blink a lot. But girls think I'm cute anyways. :D )

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I'm of unknown european descent, or as I like to call it, "white trash".

My coloring makes people assume I'm of Irish descent (pale freckled skin, reddish hair). I'm too pale to live at this So Cal latitude, that's for sure. Too much sun, not enough ozone layer.

We are ALL various shades of brown.

I am Jewish--Hungarian and maybe Russian. But my skin is darkish, and I usually look Italian (same thing as Jewish)--at least when my hair's not faux blonde-ish.

Still, we're all a brown of some description, even if it's more like the pale tan of raw sugar or the deep brown of dark chocolate.

I wish I was a soft golden or brown shade, but not me. If I tan, it looks more reddish & will fade in a day or two so I've never bothered trying. Now that I'm older, my light coloured skin looks less a smooth colour but veins & slight mottling shows up easier (not quite so hideous as it sounds). I like to make people laugh & just tell them I'm fish-belly white.

I'm a Austrian-Hungarian ancestory with black hair, very blue eyes, & pale skin with florid undertones when I'm warm (which is always). Would you believe a customer at work asked if I was Persian? With blue eyes yet? Like bookgurl, my hands are all over the place when I'm talking & I can be very intense when I'm excited about something (which is most of the times). Lots of times, I need to be gagged when I get going about things I love.

So do you mean you're soft, small, & cuddly? Or that you're so hairy that you could be said to have a 'pelt'? ;-)

I'm pretty white... A bit of Irish and Scottish but a tad Indian (though you really don't see that in me).
Tabitha-I was born/raised in California (Ventura area) what part are ya from? :)

I was born & raised in Indiana, moved to San Diego in '87. Starting to feel like a native.

I'm uprooted from being born/raised there to living in a small town where ya mow yer own grass and get wood for the wood stove and cold winters. TOTALLY against my grain of California. I'm from the Ventura area, but still have family in LA.
