I had a small polyp. Been on a no-fresh-fruits, no-raw-veggies, no-nuts, and no-beer diet since the Friday before last (just until this Friday), which means all I can eat are birthday cake and pizza, so my Weight Watchers weigh-in this evening will not be so nice.

I also have gastritis, so no more ibuprofen for me, a way-reduced consumption of tomato sauce, and a removal of soda (I think that stuff eats away at the stomach lining), but I must keep beer in my regimen.

Someone told me that someone who fills the soda dispensers at bars and other fountain places said the diet soda pumps need new hoses twice as often. I have seen the stuff remove rust from old screws (I refinished my antique lawn chairs this way), so I can only guess what it's doing to my tummy.

Maybe more than you wanted to know, but thanks for asking.

so, tiny polyp, does that mean all a.o.k? did you get the full colonoscopy done, or an xray? i saw an article re: a new less-invasive, but not as good procedure in Dr. WEil's newsletter.

Almost all my husband will drink is Diet Coke. I will mention the rust issue to him.

Why no raw veggies or fruits? Just curious. Aren't they supposed to be better for the colon than processed food? Or is it to give your tummy time to heal by not having to process anything?

hmmmm....

kk:

Too much roughage can rip the scab, and you'll bleed pints. My doctor is, apparently (according to everyone surveyed), the only one who requires patients stop their intake of fruits and veggies and nuts. Although it makes good sense to me, most others have no dietary requirements at all.

Eh, it's two weeks. I'll live. But I am not excited to step on the scale in an hour. It's hard to be good when you can't snack on fruits, veggies, and popcorn, na' mean?

I think you have to do the same prep for the x-ray, but if there's a polyp, you have to do it again so they can remove it. Seems like a waste (pardon my pun). As for the stomach stuff, that's another scope. I think diet sodas (sodas in general; they don't have to be diet) are probably the worst thing a person can do. I don't think it would be too far to say that they are the downfall of western civilization. If nothing as, they are the number one contributor to obesity.

But I love the damned stuff.

A wine-buying & drinking co-conspirator friend and I were having a discussion about sodas the other day - he said if you want to see the effect of these drinks on your system, put a bunch of chicken bones in a glass with diet soda or coke, and the bones will be quite thoroughly eaten away in a matter of days. It's acid, citric acid... Bad bad bad shit, never drink the stuff.

I assume wine would not do the same thing to bones, it being just old grape juice...

A holier-than-thou,

Wendy

ps: Sorry about the pizza and BD cake diet, Beardy. Felt remiss in not asking you how you felt before now. Kat's a good girl...
