support for klonopin withdrawal?

Posted by katekite on April 29, 2002, at 14:52:33

Anyone who's been through it and got off... let me know! It seems like its going to be a long haul. I've tried before and it didn't work, got awful insomnia. This time 3 months later I have ritalin which helps my focus and overall stress level during the day, and I'm also going down slower. I managed to get to 3/4 of my regular dose with not too much problems about 2 weeks ago. Now about 4 days ago I went from the 3/4 to 1/2 and oooff. Feel not so good.

I like feeling more awake.
I don't like the jitters and tummy butterflies.
I don't like how physically weak I feel.
I do like that I'm not as mentally anxious (yet) as I thought I might be.
I like that I'm trying to take less drugs, for once.
I don't like that my resolve vanishes in the face of being unable to think clearly.
I don't like the hyperawareness of sounds, I jump 3 feet and it doesn't seem funny.
I don't like not knowing how long it could last.

Anyone have humor for this? Its very hard not to reach for the klonopin jar. What is the longest this could last?

Thanks.

Hi!,
It's really difficult to get off of benzos- if you're still feeling anxious you might want to try clonidine, a beta blocker. Also taking a small amount of xanax prn isn't the end of the world- but I would say maybe a month or so and step up the therapy. Best of luck, Judy

My advice is don't get off of it. Keep taking it. Why do you have to give it up anyway?

Thanks for writing. I want to go off it because I've noticed I have less motivation than I used to, less get-up-and-go. Plus I have started treatment for attention deficit disorder, ritalin, and that makes me pretty calm. I'd never be able to think about getting off of it if not for that. Today has been better. Feel fidgety, but not that butterfly jitter feeling so much.

I guess I figure if I have just a few moments each day where I want it in my system and lots of moments where I feel sluggish, its worth a try to get off of it before I hit myself with extra drugs to give me energy.

A month, eh? Wow. OK 30 days, 2 down. Eek. LOL.

Thanks again.

Klonopin can be a depressant. Best of luck getting off of it. I've been taking it for 12 years and I think I'd go insane if I even tried. I ran out yesterday but had a prescription being filled but I was still in a panic over not having any in the house for a couple of hours. Talk about serious addiction.
all the best though.
