What do you fear?

Posted by Willow on March 17, 2002, at 16:47:23

Finally this anxiety and depression was starting to crawl back under the rock where it came from then bang! I was picking up milk at the local grocer and tunered around and got a bad fright. At the end of an aisle was this cutout of one of these hockey players. From the shoulders up there he was, scaring the willies out of me, leering down from the top of the aisle.

Normally no big deal. Laugh because I was startled or walk away grumbling if I'm pmsing. Not today, today it triggered the stupid anxiety.

So I'm scared of cardboard cutouts! What are you scared of?

No that's not fair. I got over my fear of most dogs.

Remember Linus yelling THAT'S IT!!!! when Lucy asked if he had pantophobia (fear of everything). I know in the Christmas special it was Charlie Brown, but in the original comic it was Linus, and it's Linus with his blanket that I always remember.

But mostly I'm afraid of causing harm to someone, failing to prevent harm to someone, bringing disaster to my family, bringing shame to my family (causing them harm), and all permutations that can possibly result from the above theme.

You'd think after 7 years of therapy that I would be able to conquer those fears, but the best I can come up with is having a sense of humour about it. Usually.

Clowns (good to hear I'm not alone, KK)...marionettes, talking dolls and little kids in horror movies (Eg. "The Shining"..."come play with us Danny...forever..and ever...and ever...")...I'm gonna stop before I sound like even more of a freak...

Kar

"Return of the Living Dead," I think that is what the name is, the black & white version I can't watch. My brothers use to make these scary faces that would freak me out. When we were younger I had a fever and everything looked all distorted. I can remember apologizing that I wanted them to move away because they looked like monsters, so perhaps this is why they are able to torture me.

Okay, to get to "the Shining," is that the movie were the family moved to the remote hotel for the winter with Jack Nicolson? If so, ever since seeing that movie he gives me the willies.

"Return of the Living Dead,"

Yeah, I think there was something about that black and white. Such a silly movie but enough creepy elements to scar ya fer life, baby.

brothers use to make these scary faces that would freak me out.

Another youngest child? Ahh, siblings...My sister would turn the lights off, hold a flashlight or candle slightly under her chin so that she was nicely bottom-lit and shadowy...and silently "chase" me around the house. Never changing her gait or the expression on her face(Very "Night of the Living Dead", actually...)I have to hand it to her for the creative effects... That reminds me- I'm gonna call and yell at her :)

is that the movie were the family moved to the remote hotel

Ooohhh yeah. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy"...Scatman Crothers, "redrum", Shelly Duvall ineffectually swinging at Jack with the bat...nothin' like some good isolation to scare the beans out of you.

Over flowing toilets..scaaary (no kidding) (nm)
