how do i find a hospital?

Posted by hrtlm on March 17, 2002, at 22:11:04

how do i go about finding a hospital that will take someone who cant pay?

im in ornage county, california

im becoming increasingly suicidal - very hopeless - there isnt a single aspect of my life that i havent ruined

i need some MAJOR help, but i dont even know where to look - even searching on the net seems impossible, as i dont know what is what and who can help and etc

does anyone know anywhere in orange county, california (northern orange county) that can help - i have some savings, but i need it to live on - im afraid i wont qualify for indigent care because of this money, but nobody understands that thats all i have and i cant see myself working at all and i guess i just kill myself when the moneys gone - i dont know - i dont know where to go

Friend;
In my part of the country, there are places called, "crisiss centers." Call infomation and ask for "crisiss centers". If you talk to the operator they will probably give you a number of some related agency when you tell them why you need the number of a crisiss center. Call now.

How are you coming w/ Lou's advice? If that didn't work out let us know, we'll find another resource. When you have time you might go to the top of the page and click on the coping w/ crises link, and read if your're thinking about suicide, there are others there too.

Three ideas:

1) Call a suicide hotline (can be found in your yellow pages) - they will have a list of resources

2) Go to the closest public hospital - look in the yellow pages under "hospitals" - it will be the one called "county" or "city" something like that. Public hospitals are required to provide care whether you can pay or not.

3) Go to the nearest ER - if your life is in danger - and suicide counts -they are not allowed to turn you away. They can keep you there and help you apply for any benefits you may be eligible for (hospitals have offices for this purpose) or they can transfer you to the public hospital.

As far as your savings, you should talk to someone who knows the local regulations because eligibility requirements vary widely.
