Yes, Steal this book, by Abbie Hoffman.

Sort of makes the book store owner paranoid.

Another good one: "Ignore this Post," by Kazoo.

A confederacy of dunces is one of my all time favorites. Ever since I read it about 20 years ago I've longed to write letters which start out something like "dear mongoloid idiot" and I frequently drift back to the image of Miss Trixie padding around the work place in her pajamas.

What a shame he only wrote one.

I can't remember the author's name but I know he commited suicide.

He was very talented, judging by the book.

Wonderful, funny book. I got it in about 1977 as much for the title as anything else; it's an oldie, like its owner.

Really cool stuff about Eastern Orthodox Christianity, partying late at nite, epilepsy, mania.

Ritch - I loved it! The protagonist is anything but an idiot. He justs sits back and takes it all in.

Hi Cam, it's good that you are back. That was my favorite Dostoyevsky novel. The Brothers K is his *best*, but I found the Idiot a lot more interesting. The late-nite party scene where some guy gives this lengthy speech about existence, why are we here, etc., was a mind-blower.

Unlike the above impulse buy i actually read parts of this book, it's filled w/ exercises, which I took and failed; no perception or imagination...felt like a very dull person after the 7th or 8th exercise, but recommend the book to sharp, inquisitive minds.

Hi IsoM,

Just an analogist's opinion, but The Cat in The Hat and The Idiot, are related somehow....

In The Idiot, it was the character, Prince Myshkin, who had the same type of epilepsy as Dostoevsky did, temporal lobe epilepsy - the "ecstatic seizures". How does The Cat in The Hat tie in with it, or am I missing something?

Dang, to be perfectly honest I am trying to get that "connection" back that I evidently had when I typed it. I am lost. Sometimes I will see something like that and have trouble reconnecting to it later. Maybe it had something to do with "Thing One" and "Thing Two". The uses of those types of *names* for fictional characters which are anthropomorphic. Mistaking one's wife for a hat...well maybe that is what I meant. Maybe I had a tiny seizure or something.

That's okay, Mitch. I did something similar recently writing to Dinah. Told her I'd post more the next day but I haven't a clue what I wanted to tell her. Don't know if you ever heard this before, but my Mom used to tell me 'it couldn't be that important or I'd have remembered it'. Nice try - I could forget my own head if it wasn't screwed on tight.
