Just some whining...

Posted by Krazy Kat on October 30, 2001, at 11:35:50

I'm looking for some at least part time work to get me out of the house, as I stated in a past thread. Not much out here. The dairy's actually too far away to make sense. Hopefully the little cows will find someone else with a nice voice to soothe them whilst being sucked upon.

Hubby's mad at me again b/c I'm sleeping late - it's two things - Depakote dose was upped and Depakote was sedating for me for the first week or so, and I'm having a little trouble with depression. Why does he get frustrated when the depression is becoming evident instead of supportive?

I am So Bored here. I feel trapped and isolated again, not good things for me. I called a friend last night and will probably go stay with her for a few days in the city but that won't sit well with hubby. It's like a vicious circle.

I think I'm having trouble with the alcohol right now partly b/c of this. I'm borderline depressed but ready to crawl out of my skin. I wish I could go wandering the rural roads of Saugerties tonight. ;)

Kat, just how far out into the sticks DO you live?

Sorry you are having a "low time". I had that problem in early July. I know this may sound elementary, but if a part-time job is not available to you, how about a new hobby? I would think that pottery or making stained-glass windows would be a great hobby (a couple that I hope to have time to pick up "one day").

I know the alcohol route all too well. I thought about it for years, until I decided that, as a depressant, it was not helping my depression. True, it popped in a little dopamine, but it also compounded my sleep problems. So, after batting that around for a while, I quit 7/2000. Sure, there are times that I "miss" a beer or several, but I think some things are becoming more clear to me in life that I had been previously glossing over in a haze.

Let us know what's up!

Pax:

Oh, it's not that far. Two hours from NYC. But I loved the city, having opportunities around every corner. Just the security of having them there was comforting, even if I didn't participate.

I'm naturally shy, so it's easy for me to sit in the house and close off the world. But it gets to me after awhile. My whole family is reclusive.

I can't seem to motivate myself to take the next step to setting up a life out here. Some days are O.K. but mostly I just mourn my beautiful city.

Hi Kat,

Don't know if it would be possible for you but have you give any thought to taking any classes, maybe a technical college or something? I was a truck driver most of my working career until I trashed my back and had to make a change. I decided on drafting and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had in my life. I went back to school when I was 38 and I was scared shitless, but it was worth it. It opened up a lot of other doors for me too. Just a thought...

About hubby, has he educated himself about your dis-ease? Maybe he's not very supportive because he doesn't understand what you're going thru? Or scared of it? Education can be the great equalizer...

I hope you find something to relieve the boredom, it can make for some very long days...

ohh... alcohol, sleeping late... two days in a row for me now... i get up, hit snooze several times, then for some reason, i just dont hear the alarm go off again and i realise im suddenly 40 minutes late for work...

i dont think i can give up alcohol at this juncture in my life, i can only moderate it... but its ruff... i dont know why im so tired in the morning, maybe its all the xanax i stuff myself with all day... god forbid i actually take the ambien i am perscribed, id probably sleep until noon...

how bout going into the city and picking a random person and following them discreetly... like ad lib stalking... i write, so thats what i do, lately ive been trying not to get smashed during the week... but alcohol keeps calling me...

i always thought about being an arsonist... you know, empty buildings and such, no foul play... theres something romantic about arson, the disaffected troubled soul who needs to set fire to buildings... maybe thatd be a good hobby?

probably the best advice is to ignore everything ive said! but i know exactly how you feel.

This is funny. My partner sugessted this to me as a hobby just last week. Being so panic stricken most of the time I would hate to cause anxiety in anyone else by following them. Still, it's an interresting idea.

And I agree with you about the alcohol. I don't think I could give it up just now either. Some days it's the only thing that keeps me from going completely mad. It's not a terribly bad vice as long as it isn't all you injest, right? Am I just rationalising here??

Funny story, one day, son and dad were coming home on the plane in the big city...we (younger son and I) were scheduled to pick them up...we were there, but 'tailed' them from the arrival to baggage claim. We could see them getting frustrated and finally going to the phone to call us. We were in hysterics. They were very sour faced about it all.

KK, you sure are doing a lot of whining. Have you taken your dogs out? Maybe you have been spending too much time with them in side and they are whining to go out...

Visited Asthma Doctor, ALL CLEAR< I AM HEALTHY...now going off one med inhaler, to see it it doing anything at all. Since I mentioned medication, do I have to go the PB now? Whine Whine Whine

Thanks for sharing Greg, sans intitials. I have thought of going back to school but hubby is starting his own company right now so it's not a good time. Also, I'm not certain what I would study. The subjects I would choose, would be awfully limiting re: a career.

He's trying to understand the illness, but I think he gets really disappointed that it won't just go away. I can't blame him. But every time he gets frustrated with me, he's pushing me away. I'll just start reverting into my shell again. After 9 + years of marriage, you'd think... but marriage is tough, I know.

In the movie Magnolia, the man who dies says something along the lines of "People always say there's not enough time in life - I say there's too damn much of it." Long days, even longer nights. Only a depressive would understand. ;)

Thanks.

I had a short story idea that has yet to come to fruition. It was inspired by Strangers on a Train - Hitchcock and the Whistler.

I thought of a man who listened in on conversations on trains, in busy stations, etc., then followed the folks. He would whisper at the appropriate safe moment what he felt they should do about the situation. For instance - a husband and wife having an argument - he "acts as her conscience" and tells her to leave him. If he had overheard the husband speaking to a girlfriend on the phone in her absence, he could include this.

The main thing is that he is never seen, and he creates havoc. Just to do it.

And I'll whine some more, thank you very much! ;)

Doggies go outside Constantly. I wish I had such a life. Oh, actually I do.

Your asthma results are wonderful, but frustrating if you don't feel better.

What else can I whine about -- house isn't clean, as usual. I prefer a Spotless home. Seems little doggies could at least pitch in. Pick up some of their fur? I may as well be comatose right now...

Slipping into depression - not too bad, yet. So familiar. Hopefully the Depakote will "kick in" quickly and block it off. I think that perhaps the "natural me" is a somewhat depressed individual. How can one remember, after taking all these meds?

well. i don't know what to say about husbands 'cos i've never had one, but i don't think anyone should dictate anyone else's sleeping patterns...(of course, i'm biased--a night-owl and a sleepy thing)

i apologize for not remembering, but what kind of work were you doing before? financially, is it okay for you to take a break?

i'm kind of in the same boat as you--unemployed, the alcohol beckons. i take very long walks during the day because i don't know what else to do.

i've been assigned community service by the courts, and i chose to do it at my old elementary school, which i can walk to, and i'll be helping children with reading. have you thought of doing volunteer work? i've always wanted to help people with reading but didn't have the gumption to do it 'til the judge laid down the law...but maybe you've got more motivation than i've got.

i hope you feel better...

love,
sar

Oh, Sar, the whole Financial thing.

No, I should be working, absolutely. But when we moved out here, my options really dwindled. Also, one gets used to 'not working' since one's mother didn't, nor one's sister, etc., etc....

Hubby is starting own business and don't know when next check is coming in. It's very stressful. I wanted him to work on his own, but not all of the sudden like this. There was no warning.

Do you think I should try to get a job for security? Remember, I'm 30. My background is in Journalism and Electronic Publishing. There's just not much around here.

My interests are books and animals. I think that's it. ;) Quite low paying, as you know. BUT, insurance coverage!!

I have a feeling we come from similar Texas families. If you ever want to talk, e-mail me at:

Imagine that! I was going to suggest exactly that. Or to check out a senior's home. I use to go to a local one once a week. I would set up the VCR and grab some juice and cookies, then round up an audience.

Elders are good to talk to. Lots of experience and wisdom, benn there done that type. Have you made any new friends around your little town?
