I'm AWOL from egroups/yahoo at the moment

Posted by Noa on January 29, 2001, at 14:38:20

Converting my account from egroups to yahoo proved more complicated than it should have been--and aggravating.

I unsubscribed and am resubscribing with a slightly different ID. I do't know how long it will take till I get "accepted" by the moderators, ahem ahem, so just wanted to let you know I didn't fall off the earth.

Yahoo is driving me nuts, BTW.

There has been some off-shoot groups created at Yahoo Groups (used to be egroups) by some of us here at Babble. I run one called A Safe Haven. There are also As The Psycho Babbles and Ladies of the Lite. If you'd like to check out Haven go to the following url:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ASafeHaven

Just subscribe to the group and I'll see that you get approved right away. If you don't like it, you can unsubscribe anytime you like. Hope I see you there!

There is also a Lumptonia e-group - the CORRECT group is the one listed as New Lumptonia.

Dearest Greg (SDD)

In true Lumptonian style, I shall overlook your puppy faux paws (oops.... I'm obviously confusing you with someone else!)

Your magnificent, gentle caring soul (with that adorable little devil side of you) makes having an opportunity to "forgive" you immeasurably pleasurable! :)

I just can't seem to get through my thick aching head how these groups work. Tried to register once but have no clue where I had gotten to when I gave up. Got an E-mail today with an auth. code but then got stuck again. No clue what i might have used for name etc. Don't recall asking for the code yesterday either, but I guess I must have. Then I got to thinking You all wouldn't want me there either. Think I'm losing it....

We *do* want you there Quilter.. I can only speak for ASK, but it really is the most wonderfully funny and supportive place.

If you can work out how to join, I'm sure Greg would OK you ASAP. (and if he didn't, I'd slap his bum!!)

Quilter, I have been having a very hard time getting it all straightened out with the yahoo groups, too. I kept making stupid mistakes in registering, and ended up having my email showing in my id, which I didn't want, and when I went to change it, I discovered it isn't so easy and because Yahoo is so much bigger than egroups, my name was already taken and I had to come up with a new one, then I accidentally kept deleting myself out of my groups.

It isn't you. It's yahoo.

Or, at least know you aren't alone.

Thank you for that post, I thought I was a jerk for not being able to get my email address off the members list, so I just removed myself. I prefer to be anonymous, which I think is my right, so why does Yahoo make it so hard to register what the subscriber wants? It's like I need to take a frickin' course just to learn how to use the damned thing.

Sorry- needed to vent. Perhaps someone who took the course (smile) can tell us in detail what to do on Yahoo e-groups to protect anonymity (sp?). Any takers? Thanks in advance...

What someone has done, is set up a new yahoo email address - one that conains NO private information, and registered using that. That way, even though it shows an email address, it is in no way connected with you ~smile~

Hope that suggestion helps...

And, while YOU can see your whole email address on the members list, no one else can.

That helps, tho isn't great, because they can see the first letter of the address, so it is usually not too hard to figure out (a=aol, y=yahoo, h=hotmail, altho apparently hotmail people are having problems getting into the yahoogroups system, etc etc.)

But if you really don't want your real email showing, register for a yahoo address. And since yahoo asks a bunch of info, what I do is get "loose" with the accuracy of my data, if you know what I mean.

Ok, thanks for the tips from Nikki and Noa! I guess I was getting irritable last night after wasting half an hour on Yahoo...
Best,
