Re: An unusual problem : Control freaks.

Posted by Bruno on December 3, 2000, at 12:34:58

Is my girlfriend of a couple of months a control freak? If so, should I be worried. I know I don't like to be bossed around:
She asks me to cut my food into smaller pieces, tells me to signal lane changes even though there's no other cars around us, she tells me what clothes I should throw out. She warns me that "our" house will be immaculately clean and organized every day or she won't be able to function --- eg. if I leave a shirt on the bedroom chair a few times, it'll be out on the street.
Please advise, internet friends. ; >

Bruno:
Not to be rude, but I think you've just passed a huge sign that says: ENTERING HELL.

If you suffer from manic depression, and I'm assuming you do because you're here, I would think you'd have no problem conforming to the rules while you're manic - I do stuff like wax the floor on my knees. It's the depression phase
that is going to be a problem, I would think.

Since you asked ;-)

Bruno - here are the real questions: does she want you to use arm signals along with the turn indicators?

How big are the pieces of food?

How many times is a 'few' (re: the shirt)

Is there enough traffic on the street to do damage to the shirt?

Bruno ... well, it seems to me that it would be a very stressful hostile envirnment to live with a person like that...if you can handle someone else controlling your life you'll be okay, otherwise, I think you may want to take a second look at your relationship with this woman...thats my advice!!
Good Luck

Emmanuela, you have a great sense of humor. It's been awhile since I've laughed this hard.

Hi Craig - I'm delighted that you laughed. Ain't it nice? Don't it feel good? Don't it beat the hell out of depression? I've got some good jokes - just let me know when you're interested in hearing them.
Very best,
Emmanuela

I'm interested in jokes anytime! Did you read "My dad is weird" which I wrote in the thread a few above this? I hope I made you laugh.

some of you really want to help, but the others just need help.
I'm not manic-depressive, no one really is - these are labels thought up by psychiatrists to round up more patients. You are those labels if you believe you are. It comes down to fear, anxiety, sadness, stress...that's all. It is others who manifest these normal feelings into "diseases". Let's get real.

Hi Noa - Thank you for your nice comment - I appreciate it. Perhaps an apology is necessary to Bruno - I thought his post might have been a joke, and so responded in kind. Obviously not....but at least it made Craig laugh, and that's great. Thanks again.

Gracie-Just thought you might be interested in knowing that it's quite an assumption to say that if you're on this board, it must mean that you're bi-polar, unless you meant it facetiously, and i didn't get it. (i'm sometimes that dense.) but take me, for example. I have depression, anxiety, ADD, OCD, PTSD, and BPD (meaning borderline personality disorder - not bi-polar disorder,) and i'm here. My p-doc and I have looked everywhere inside me for manic-depression, but it's just not there. I love your posts, and don't mean this critically, but just thought you'd like to know there are other brands of neurotics here. other flavors, too.

caroline h.

p.s. sometimes i wish i was bi-polar, so i'd have a greater sense of belonging here. only kidding, but there are a lot of bi-polars here.

Of course you are right. I should have simply said IF you're bipolar and left out the "I assume"
part. Of course you know the old saw about using this word "assume".
