I should say I respect and LIKE the anonymity of this board. If you live in Austin and don't really care to share that, just say Dallas.
Anything north of Austin, make that San Antonio, isn't Texas anyway. ;-)

Getting WAY too big, as far as I'm concerned. How long have you lived here?

Thanks,

Greg,
Dallas is awful. Really racist. Houston is pretty bad too, San Antonio is good, Austin is the best place in the Great State of Texas.

This weekend and the Renaissance Festival was rainy and steamy (warm), so all the instruments were sounding sort of bad, and one really can't play a viol very well in humidity because it changes the whole sound.

Fun being away from responsibility to a village in the 1550's, getting to dress up (tho skirt got soaked from rain), where I am relatively anonymous...yes, definitely fun.

xoxo
Shar

shar, Yeah, I hate what's happening here. I came for the music and laid back attitude and now it's everything but. Moved here in '92.
Wish I'd moved here in '72. Still great things about Austin but I wonder how long they'll last.

I'm seeing Shiree Flume, her husband and her are both pdocs and their office is at Bee Caves and Mopac. I know their secretary real well; she worked for Cardwell, a psychopharmacologist I saw for a few years.
I could give more detail by email 'if you wanted' but I think Dr. Flume, who used to be a pharmacist, is pretty sharp. Her and her husband have different ways of working but I think they are both good.
I know of some bad ones too.
Have any recommendations?
Phil

Shar, Actually my friend lives at Apache Shores, brain not functioning all that well.

Greg, I'm sure you caught it but we live in Austin in the beautiful hill country of Texas. Dallas is a sh*thole, sorry to any Dallas folks, just my opinion. Dallas is nice if you like flat as a pancake scenery all covered by concrete and big-ass buildings that are really shiny!!
I lived in Dallas for 6 months and could take no more.
If you like LA you'd like Dallas. First time I went grocery shopping in Dallas, I was amused by all the lovelies wearing mink coats to the bloody grocery store.
And there's a WHOLE BUNCH of Baptists there.
Wonder how many people I can offend with this post..

Phil,
The thing I can't get over about Dallas is the rampant racism there. My relatives (all goodly Baptists or something similar) are just incredible. I hope as they die they will be brought up short to find god is black and she is mad.

My mom just moved here from Gun Barrel City (near Dallas). Tho she won't say it, I think it was to get away from my hypocritical relatives.

If my relatives read your post I'm sure they would just shake their heads in the pain of knowing you had not been saved. But, they would not come here (to PSB) anyway because they don't acknowledge psych problems or sexual abuse (as one pastoral "counselor" told my niece who was molested by my cousin, don't make waves, think of all the people who don't even have a roof over their heads or food to eat).

Makes me shudder with the sickness of it all. The niece is out of there now; but not before she stayed in the bathroom of the church during an uncle's funeral because her molester was there and she couldn't bear to see him; that was even with me and my sister there to protect her from him, and telling her she did not have to be nice to him, or shake his hand, or hug him, or acknowledge him in any way. My sister and I tried to kill him with dirty looks but it did not work. Yuck.

I've been in Austin since 80. Still had the Armadillo, now there's a bank there. Still had the strip of Loop 1 (MoPac) that went unfinished for years because "environmentalists" were opposed and organized; it was by the river and just stopped and then on the other side of the river it started again. No growth beyond Lamar (in the south) and very little in the north beyond Burnet. No fast food on the drag to speak of. Hwy 183 was a 2 lane road (maybe 4 lanes in some places). Bee Caves road was 2 lane and beat up. Nothing out there at all. Oak Hill was in the country. No Barton Creek Mall, no buildings south of the river except on Bee Caves road. Zilker park was open for people, no toll booth/parking problems.

Oh well. I think there is a slow return of the pendulum back to "let's keep what we've got." Sure hope so.

No recommendations at all. I've seen 4 here and none of them were very good. Actually, they were shrinks, so I don't know how good their psychopharm background was, they all saw me solely to prescribe meds, tho.
