How are you with Issac approaching? Isn't it the anniversary of Katrina? I'm anxiously watching your weather and the storm track but I wonder what they are telling you locally. That has to be more accurate. At least you have a good governor and the mayor....does he inspire confidence?
I am praying for you and all the residents of the parishes in general.
Let us know...please.

Thanks for thinking of me!
We safely evacuated, but my internet connection, as it stands now, is lousy. I'll be in better contact when I figure something out.
Our governor is unbelievably sexy when he rattles off numbers and figures. Call me a geek, but there's something so very attractive about that. The current mayor is pretty good by any other standards. But he can't rattle off the tons of detailed information with the same speed, assurance, and precision. :)
More later. I drove most of the night and can't stay awake longer than a few minutes at a time.

Dinah I really know you're OK if you manage to find something sexy about the governor :-)
Stay well

I'm glad you're safe Dinah.
Maybe the positive side is that Isaac doesn't seem to be an exceptionally powerful storm, and it could provide a test of the success of the storm protections that have been added. From what I see in the news, they seem to be functioning well--
so maybe this gives New Orleans residents a little greater security.
When will you return? do you know yet?

That sounds as good as it gets, under lousy circumstances. Thanks for posting. I feel better.
I know what you mean about Gov Jindal...somehow. Not sure how/why I get it, but I do. It really *is* a geek thing..... Remember, although it's a physical characteristic, I also totally understand 'Dr. Drew forearm syndrome' ;-)
Hope all your family and extended family are holding up okay. And your T., too, of course. Mostly I pray it's absolutely **nothing** like 2005. But I think emotionally, there must be a bit of a PTSD-type reaction any time you hear a hurricane is heading directly for NO. Katrina was far, far more than enough for any of you to endure in a lifetime.
Don't forget you may be more stressed than you know and take care of your body and mind. Don't he a hero. That's what husbands can be there for.... ((Dinah))

The Jindal sexiness is related to events like his hurricane updates. Mastery is essentially attractive. He comes across as wonky, with an incredible grasp of what seems to be even the smallest detail, and as a competent and therefore comforting caretaker. (Not warmly comforting, seeing as how he rattles things off a mile a minute without any of the typical public figure expressions of compassion. But comforting in a more cerebral way.) Therefore pressing two very different but deeply rooted buttons for me. Brilliant intelligence and caretaking. :)
I'd like to wait until the weekend to return, so the power outages can be addressed and the roadways cleared. But we're not totally our own masters, so it depends on outside requirements I guess. In the meantime, I'm trying to get some work done while sitting on a reasonably comfortable bed covered with dogs. Come to think of it, that's not a bad way to try to work except that I keep falling asleep.
My brain isn't wired for anniversaries. I manage to get through the anniversaries of my loved one's death without ever noticing. People kept mentioning Katrina, but I wasn't really anxious about anything but deciding the best thing to do. And thinking about the potential of days with no air conditioning. I might have handled that in my younger and thinner days. As a menopausal overweight middle aged woman, a lack of air conditioning doesn't bear thinking of.

I hope you're well, with not too many repercussions from the hurricane and evacuation.
For a while it can be hard to go back to your routine and to reestablish your regular existence. Sometimes they say repetition can help you master events-- like feeling that you can rely on Jindal, and realizing that there are actions you can take to protect yourself.
I hope it's working out that way,
Willful

Well, we still don't have internet access at home. And my cell phone's internet access stinks. :(
Other than that, we're fine. A few odd appliances quit working during the storm, so we wonder if we had a power surge or something. But nothing terrible. We needed a new refrigerator anyway. And timers are easy enough to come by, if our oven timer quit working.
But internet... How did we ever get along without it?

Hi Dinah!
Glad to hear that you're OK!
I'm not sure I could live an an area with hurricanes.
How did your dogs handle the evaculation?
Did you get rid of all the food in your fridge before you left? That should make switching fridges much easier.

No, we didn't. They'd downplayed the storm's strength. My husband was actually somewhat opposed to leaving. Maybe next time he'll listen to me.
However, as a matter of policy, we don't keep much in the freezer or refrigerator in late summer. And we put nearly everything that wasn't sealed already into ziplock bags. Unfortunately, we forgot the frozen garlic toast. :)
So we thoroughly cleaned the refrigerator before realizing that it was broken and the dump got the refrigerator as clean as it's ever been since we bought it.
This is the end of the thread.
