Patients visit psychiatrist in jail, want their prescriptions!

Patients try to keep appointments with jailed doc
(AP) 2 days ago

COVINGTON, Ky. Patients of a northern Kentucky psychiatrist jailed on a charge he stabbed a woman with a sword have tried to keep appointments with him in jail. Kenton County jail Chief Deputy Scott Colvin said deputies have had to turn away several patients of Douglas Rank, charged last month with first-degree assault in an attack on 32-year-old woman.

Colvin told the Kentucky Enquirer that some patients have asked if they could drop off Rank's prescription pad at the jail so he could write their prescriptions.

Colvin said the requests have been denied, as prisoners are not allowed to practice their trade in jail.

At a hearing Tuesday, witnesses said the psychiatrist towered over his bloodied patient with a sword in both hands before he was distracted and had the weapon wrestled away from him.

Good grief!

What on earth was the guy prescribing? Couldn't they have another psychiatrist, even one from a nearby area, step in to take emergencies until patients find other alternatives?

Mind you, I can imagine *wanting* to go see my therapist in jail for sessions. But my psychiatrist? No way.

The victim was a client? Hmmm... Aren't we all secretly afraid of countertransference reactions? But that is almost unbelievable.

Wow at first I thought the prisoners couldn't see a jail pdoc but on second reading see it's the pdoc who did the killing. Yes unbelievable. You know at one time I had a pdoc who said he tried all the meds before prescribing. I wonder if this guy was on his own meds to test them and something wierd and horrible happened? I'd like to hear the history of this killing. Phillipa

any one of us could have walked in this guy's office. who is protecting us? scarey stuff.

Yes he did and he bought cartons of cigarettes for the patients. This is the one who medicaire stormed his offices seized his files as he was bilking the insurance companies. Today he practices in a hole in the wall hospital in the middle of nowhere and has one practice was banned from the town I saw him in and another hospital and town as well. Phillipa

I think it is nice he spent his own money buying cigarettes for his patients.

Scary indeed.

He'd already been caught sleeping with one patient, and he was apparently sleeping with this patient also. Even if he hadn't tried to run her through with a sword, the authorities obviously had done absolutely nothing to prevent this doctor from abusing his relationship by sleeping with clients.

And since he was also caught overprescribing narcotics to a patient, my suspicions about why his patients were so anxious to get *his* prescriptions rather than running with relief that he hadn't tried to kill them to another doctor look not unlikely.

As much as I adore and trust my therapist, if I found out he was in jail after attacking a client with a sword, I'm pretty sure I'd be running away not towards. Call me fickle.
