No amount of money could lure me to that job.

That is what I am in school for.
In a sense I do that kind of work already, being the moderator of an abused survivors' group.

I would like parts of it. I would love to feel that my work had meaning, and given how much therapy has helped me, I would have a sense of purpose.
The trouble is that I couldn't pick and choose my clients. Well, ideally I wouldn't have that great a desire to limit who I wanted to work with. But in practice I'm a pretty high strung person with a limited tolerance for stimulation. So, I would not want to be a therapist because I wouldn't be able to do justice to it.
It isn't easy, that's for sure. Added to the emotional toll, it doesn't appear to be a very financially secure profession.
I've had the sense lately that some of the therapists described on Babble have been trying to limit their practices to only a small range of clients who won't be much of a challenge. That's certainly their right, and I even have a sympathy for it given my own limitations. But I rather wonder what it is they went into the profession thinking they were going to be doing. Working only with well people who need a bit of a tuneup?

the answer for me is "no, why the hell would I do that?"
This is the end of the thread.
