So I posted this on another board (there really is no partition for this question), and some input is really needed....thx.
I think all the states are different. Where I live if I make over $400 a month (a caseworker told me this hasn't been changed for 25 years), I can't qualify for medicaid unless I am 'disabled'.
There is a form my PDoc has to fill out for me--he can indicated I was temporarily disabled, under 12 months.
If I was close to having a meltdown with severe anxiety and other mental health/cognitive issues, had to quit my job and take leave from (one of my unis) school, is that enough to be considered temporarily disabled?
Disabled, on the form, means I am unable to work right now. While in school full-time (still working on 1 degree), I can't work right now. I can barely handle school at the moment with trying to get my house ready to sell and a huge to do list that was ignored since last year, and did barely anything--as far as homework, responsibilities, house, etc., from mid-December until just recently. I still think its too soon to go back to work while finishing UG degree with the other periphial issues, as I am being really, really careful and trying new med regime.
Has anyone ever claimed temporary disability (not social security disability), for temporary medical benefits/medicaid. It doesn't seem enough for disability--I'm not sure if my situation qualifies.

>Garnet, it says so little about us as a civilization that MH benefits are out of reach for so many people. And where aid does exist, the patchwork of laws and requirements would take a team of lawyers to sort out.
I'm afraid I can't address your question directly, and I think you are right in saying it varies tremendously from state to state. Does your state have a Dept of Mental Health? Sometimes they can be helpful in letting you know how you can qualify for available benefits. Unfortunately the economy has gutted the budgets of many state DMHs so they can't help as directly as they used to. But they may be able to hook you up with someone knowledgeable or maybe an advocate or something.

Yeah, Lucie, I was worried about caseworkers' rubber stamp with the funding issues. Just today, I saw my state got federal aid just for Medicaid.
I don't know if I want the 'disability' stigma, but then again I have thousands in doctors' bills.
My insurance co. who dropped me for late payment just sent me a letter that indicates I can't be reinstated (unless I serve active military duty again). In the past, as I was told, they normally reinstate everyone who had missed payments. I guess in reviewing my file, they thought I was too expensive.
Good idea about contacting an organization or advocate. If I can muster up the will/energy to continue the application process. I am so sick of paperwork..trying to catch up after months of being ill.
