I had group therapy session yesterday and I ended up talking about something that really scares me and I was already on edge because I was nervous about speaking in fron of a group. Talking about it DIDN'T HELP AT ALL. IT MADE ME FEEL WORSE. And now I feel angry because I'm avoiding things again.

Angela, that happens to me a lot, too. People who think it always helps to talk, in my opinion, have never had to deal with serious issues.
Sometimes when you take a big leap forward, it hurts, and it's scary and horrible, because it's so far out of your comfort zone. Give yourself credit for doing something so scary for you. It took courage.

Thanks RaisinB. I think I'm so upset partly because I wasn't planning on talking about it. It's just something on my mind a lot. No one forced me to talk about it. But I was scared to say "I don't want to talk about it." Though I guess I know now..that it's OK to say that.

Hi Angela,
sorry you feel so yuck. I can hear the pain in your voice. I think raisinB is right- sometimes the biggest steps are the most painful. When something has been on your mind a lot, it's natural for it to bubble its way into therapy (group or otherwise). I sincerely hope that your group was supportive and accepting. Maybe not all of them are at the same place as you, but their respect for your struggles will go a long way. It's okay to take it easy for a little while. You just did a big thing, so be nice to Angela, okay?

You are one brave person to talk like that in front of a group especially about such personal stuff. I hope you feel better soon.

It is hard to talk about things that make you uncomfortable, but I suspect it's good in the long run. Talking about it will be easier the next time, after you regroup and catch your breath again.
