I like the curriculum better, more emphasis is on actually doing therapy instead of doing research. The only downfall is that it seems it is harder to get full- ride scholarships like you can with Phd.
So money might make the difference of where I will go unfortunately. So I don't know what I want to do now. I am looking at Chicago school, Midwest Univ., the Chicago School, and Adler School. for PsyD. but if Phd, Notre Dame, Purdue,North Western, or Western Univ. sigh--
I guess I still have a long way to go before I will have to decide...

Don't forget about MSW's! I'm almost done with my PhD program and it will take me 9 years before all is said and done. I regret doing something that was so much more pain and stress when I could do the exact same work with a degree that takes only 2-3 years. On the upside, I will like having Dr. before my name, but I'm not sure that is worth the pain and missing out on some of the "best years" of my life.
Best,
EE

I agree. My T is an MSW and he is great - I know a lot of people that just found their doctorates took sooo long. And MSWs can work pretty much anywhere Ph.D.'s can, they just don't get paid quite as much I don't think. And don't do research, of course.

I know what you mean, I am not a young chicken either, I am 39 and I still have to get my undergrade. My T told me this week that with his Phd. he makes not too much more than a MSW when it comes to mangaged care which covers the a lot of clients now.
There is a really good program at my Univ. that you can go parttime evenings for 3 years plus one year supervision therapy to get your license. The director who has a Phd. and is a T, said this program is better than his Phd. program he attended. But then again he is the director. So... who knows

All I can say about the Ph.D. is that is you have any doubts whatsoever about pursuing this degree - don't do it.
It took me 6 years post undergraduate to complete mine (not in Psychology) and that was because I worked 70+ hours a week for the last three years.
It's a lot of sacrifice and if you have an option to still do what you want without it, man, I would take that option.
Seldom
