gonna face a phobia of mine

Posted by Happyflower on May 26, 2007, at 12:01:30

Yup! My DH bought me a geeee taaaarrr yesterday! It was only 29 bucks and normally they sell for 200, so it was a good deal!

Well I have always wanted to learn so I called about lessons. First of all they are a lot cheaper than I pay for trumpet lessons. Plus they are group lessons of the same age, so you get to play duets and stuff. This sounds like fun! But there is one thing that I am scared about, always have been my whole life and I don't know why. I can't sing in public, this is one of the reasons I dropped out of music school. Well you have to learn to sing do, ray, me,etc. in class. YIKES! But I am going to try, for me this will be the hardest part because I can already read music and play by ear. It starts in 2 weeks! Eekkkkkk.

Happy,
First you can warm up in the shower. practice long tones and scales. then practice doing scales with different articulation. figure out beforehand what the highest note is you can sing and then the lowest note. Then you can request to sing the right part. (Imagine my discomfort when I found out the hard way that I'm not an alto).

Who cares if you squeek? just say that you were trying to focus on the guitar instead of the singing...

happy flowers for you,
Ll

Hi Llurpsie,

Good advice but one thing.......I am terrified of even doing it alone, I don't know why I developed this phobia, I have had it for as long as I remember. It is aweful, really.

I lucked out that I knew music theory well enought I could test out of 3 years of it in school, but it was a WRITTEN test, and there were NO singing. This is one of the reason I quit music school, because I knew I had to take that one last class.

I absoultely terrified of singing outloud, I don't know why, but I am. I can't even sign happyf birthday to my son in two days, I pretend to do it. I never had, it is so embarresting. Do you think he will allow me to use sign language instead?
