Weird...'singing bowls'?????????????????

Posted by muffled on May 11, 2007, at 19:31:29

So the reason I got kicked out of dbt (WHAT a JOKE) but anyways, what set me off was this 'singing bowl' they used in relaxation(its fussing me even to think of this), but anyways, they'd ting this bowl and it would ring and fade. I never heard the fade, I'd blank.
Then today, I saw a percussion group, at one point they were hitting silver bowl type things, I was getting agitated and didn't know why, it dawned on me it was the bowls, so I closed my eyes for awhile and it was short that part , and in a bit all was fine.
Now is that WEIRD or WHAT?
Does anyone else have an aversion to singing bowls? Only thing I could think of was maybe in hosp when I had my tonsils out, maybe I wasn't right out for the anesthetic and I heard my tonsils plop in the bowl? or mebbe I heard the ting of instruments hitting the bowl? This is SO bizzare.
I am lost.
Memories are bad to have.
No memories just feelings are bad too.
Maybe I should be called lost.
I don't know who I am.
Or why.

Hi Muffy,

My yoga instructor uses them in yoga, here is what one site said about them.

This medium size singing bowl measures approximately 6 inch in diameter, but due to fact that these bowls are hand made the size will vary slightly. The sound created by these singing bowls is said to be connected to the consciousness of the human spirit. In Tibetan tradition the powerful vibrations of the singing bowl respond to the sound of the universal creation and inner consciousness.

The bowl is used by placing it on the open palm of one hand. With the other hand strike the bowl with the wooden stick, then keeping contact with bowl move the stick around the rim of the bowl. As the bowl sings it creates vibrations of its own which effect the vibration in the air. Singing bowl can also be used as space clearing tool in Feng Shui. These singing bowls are hand made and produce sound vibrations which stimulate and synchronize the harmony of our living body.

Hmmm. Interesting....THANKS! HF :-) (nm) » Happyflower

I think bowls have no business singing.
They are supposed to hold things, like food (popcorn, maybe spaghetti, chips etc)

I don't like people hitting them either with wooden things. Just because something makes a sound doesn't mean you should hit it. I hate people making me meditate too. They should go meditate themselves, and maybe use that bowl on their head to get a haircut...but make the bowl sing.............
I don't think so
