reporting unethical therapists? you guessed who

Posted by wishingstar on December 15, 2006, at 20:45:32

Last time I swore I'd stop posting about Anne. I guess I lied.

The more distance I get from her, the more afraid I am. The more I worry for her other clients. I know she isnt nearly as bad as many, many Ts out there (sleeping with clients, abusing clients, etc). Not even close. I dont know if unethical is the right word even. I think incompetent is really it. I dont say that to be mean or out of anger.. I just really believe she isnt very competent at what she does. As you all know, she did me more more harm than good.

Is this worth reporting? I discussed the entire story with an old friend tonight, from start to finish, and you know.. she was hurtful time after time after time. I'm really not sure she is safe or should be doing therapy.

Am I over the top? If so, please tell me.

Just from what you have talked about here, I don't think there is a "crime" in her treatment with you. At best, she knew she got in over her head and ended treatment with you. At worse, she quit without a warning.

Bad? Yes. Unethical? Probably not. I don't know, but I doubt you would get very far and feel very good going through the process.

Working with Ginny, talking about the pain, that is probably going to help you in the long run.

But I'm no expert.

I'm w/AnnieR WS.
There are those in the profession who are aware of what happened.
Word will get round if it needs to I'm sure.
I think you will just get hurt persuing it.
I know its hard cuz you don't want her to hurt others.
Really, I don't know either.
What does ginny say bout this?
Take care,
I so glad you got Ginny :)

Thanks annie and muffled, you guys are right. I just lost it for a minute I guess.

Glad I have Ginny too. Although as good as she is.. I mean, she says the right things and does the right things.. it just doesnt seem to matter. I'm not connecting with her. I've been hesistating to admit that because I dont want to admit it to myself.. but I'm not. I'm just not. And I miss Laurie. I'm just done.

Maybe you are scared to connect with her so you are holding back afraid you will get burned again.

So hang in there. Keep talking about it.

I think I agree with the conclusions you've drawn yourself and that others have weighed in with. I wish there was some meaningful way to report her, but I'm guessing it would do you more harm than good. I think this is one of those times when you have to hope the incompetence catches up with her (in terms of clients lost, referrals lost, etc.)

I know this feeling very well--as if the bad Ts need to be punished, or at least that's the feeling for me. Once I realized it was really feelings for wanting to "punish" my father for what he did, I was able to let it go. But I found it really difficult--I still have a terrible time with it.
best,
antigua
