It's wierd coming back here after such a long break, but I couldn't handle reading about other people's therapy when I didn't have one of my own. I'm sorry for that.
I've been on a waiting list for over a year (British National Health Service) and finally got an appointment last week. I'm really not keen on the T, she's completely oversympathetic and she's fond of silence (I'm not). I've got no idea what to talk about and she doesn't ask me much. I'm on medication that makes me feel completely flat at the moment, which doesn't help I suppose.
Any ideas for settling in with a new T? TBH seeing someone new just made me miss my old T who was fantastic but has retired.

Hi, I'm happy you finally got a T.
Give it time. I have off and on disliked my T for some reason or another.
You'll just have to train up your T, tell her how you work best. Eg, not too much silence. Tougher.
I used to give my T heck for being too nice!
I am fortunate, my T talks LOTS. LOL. I think she gets mad at herself sometimes cuz she thinks she talks too much!!!Poor lady has to work her *ss off! Suits me FINE! LOL.
So anyways, with time, me and my T are working WAY better together now. She much tougher, we trust each other way more. And we can understand where each is comming from way better.
So give it time, she may be a wonder T. You guys just goto get used to each others ways.

Have you tried talking to her about this?
I know what you mean about oversympathetic. I fuss about my therapist being too cool sometimes, but there have been therapists where I've come away feeling like I'm dripping in something sticky.
Welcome back. :)

We discussed silences, and I said I didn't like them but should probably try to get used to them - we spent the last 10mins in silence, it was so uncomfortable.

Such a fantastic description, you've hit the nail on the head!

I guess I do need to give it more time. I have 6 sessions then it's reviewed to see whether I need any more.
I'll try to get her in to my way of thinking ;) She seems quite unsure of herself, so maybe she'll be easy to mould!
