What is the possibility of misdiagnosis of bipolar with respect to passive aggressive? Is it possible to have a little of both? Am I just overthinking here?

Hi curt,
Well, passive aggressiveness isn't currently a formal diagnosis according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders volume IV (2002). That's the manual that all US mental health practitioners use now. The third edition (1994) of that manual included a Passive Aggressive Personality Disorder, but it's been folded into some other diagnosis now. Certainly people with all types of diagnoses can exhibit passive aggressive behavior.
Do you want to know the diagnosit criteria for bipolar? Here's a good source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Current_diagnostic_criteria_for_bipolar_disorder
I hope this helps.

Hi Curt,
You know I think it is very possible that you could have been misdianosed. It happens a lot, and if you think there is something wrong, get a second opinion. GOod luck

Why don't you tell your pdoc exactly what your concerns are and ask him/her this question? If you're in someone's care, there's absolutely no reason why you should be uninformed about your diagnosis.
