Ugh. My friend (whom I trusted with my feelings) told me to get off this pity pot about terminating my online counselling. Is it really a pity pot? I mean, am I truly overreacting about this? I know these feelings will "go away" at some point but shouldn't I be able to sit on the pot if I need to for a bit even though it was only an "email" relationship? I think, people develop relationships in all sorts of ways and it's no less valuable.

You're absolutely right, people do develop relationships in all sorts of ways. I'm sorry your friend said what she did. My guess is that she probably just doesn't understand. The attachments we form in therapy can seem very strange to those who haven't experienced it themselves.
I don't think you're overreacting at all. I have an email relationship that is very important to me and I would feel lost without it. And it's not even therapy!!!
I'm so sorry you had to terminate your online counseling. It must hurt a lot. Keep writing about it here. You are among people who care.

Sounds like she's being a little abrasive, not hearing how you feel, or not being able to put herself in your shoes. Too bad, she might learn something.

It is hard for anyone who has not been in the situation to understand the dependancy and the feelings.
So you would be better off not talking about it to friends in real life, and finding consolation and solace here in babble.

I'm not sure it's ever helpful or empathetic to say something like that. Even if the intentions are good. And even if you don't understand why someone's hurting.
Your pain is your pain and you don't need to justify it.
I wish she had told you that she didn't necessarily understand why you were hurting, but she could see that you are, and she was sorry for that.
Sigh.
Just file it under information about your friend, not about you?
