Why is it that you are not telling these gym people about who your therapist is? Your T can't tell them since it would be a HIPPA violation. So, why don't you?
Maybe I missed this in another thread?

Hi TofuEmmy,
I don't know these people well enough and plus I want to keep it confidential myself. I don't want everyone to know I am in therapy. It isn't that I am ashamed or anything, I just know how some people think and I don't want to go there. In a way I wished my T never told me that these are some of his friends that were talking to me.

Do you think it's possible that there is more to it than that? In reading you posts in this thread it sounds like you are enjoying things this way. It sorta changes the power around a bit. The lopsided power structure can be very frustrating. So, maybe giving yourself more power is kinda nice?
If I were in your shoes, here is what I'd be thinking: The gym people aren't really friends since I'm not close enough to tell them that I'm in therapy (although most of them proably are, or have been. Seems everyone is these days!) So that makes them more like acquaintances.
I would give up acquaintances for the sake of my T's privacy. I care a LOT about him and wouldn't do anything intentional to make his life more difficult. If he had to give up these friends because they are MY friends now, that would be sad. T's need lots of supportive friendships so they can tolerate us! :-)
Take care. emmy
