Developing other interests and relationships

Posted by orchid on November 30, 2005, at 7:26:03

Well folks, since I am a little better now, I get the right to preach a little :-)

Something which has probably been said many times by every therapist, and which I am realing practically now, is the fact that even under extreme distressing emotions, it is possibly a good idea to be a little outgoing and develop and keep other relationships. And other activities like reading news, reading jokes in reader's digest, or singing, or learning. Even under the heights of depression, I somehow managed to keep reading, and maintained contact with all my classmates, and that seemed to have helped a lot. That is why, I guess, even when I got extremely down, I was able to bounce back after a while.

And now, I am in a hospital, and am seeing lots of new people and talking to them, and am realizing how much of good it is doing to me. And I am reading lots of good old REader's digest - issues from the 1980 etc. And it is so wonderful to read jokes and stories in it. And it has been helping me immensely these days.

Wanted to share :-)

I'm glad you're feeling better. Your postive post is downright infectious. I too, find that when I'm not feeling my best, it helps to stay connected in the long run. Thanks for the reminder.
