Hooray! I misunderstood.

Posted by Dinah on June 21, 2005, at 12:15:57

He mentioned that he would still be able to see me two times a week, and he distinctly mentioned Friday and Saturday, and I thought that was what he meant.

But he didn't. He said he realized that wasn't what was important to me, the number of times he saw me. He was negotiating for Tuesday or Wednesday. That he did realize how important it was for me to see him at shorter intervals, and he thought it was important too.

Well, now I don't feel scared or abandoned at all. I feel truly understood and truly cared about.

It's still sinking in. (big grin)

What a rollercoaster you've been on from feeling like a rug was being pulled out from under you to feeling the self-protective need to withdraw to finding out how much the fact of YOU weighs in the decisions your T makes about his career. You must be exhausted. Think about that! You are an important factor in his life's work because you are unique, special and important to him!!!!

I am glad the ride has had a smooth conclusion. OK, maybe the hug was a little bit of a bump, but still what a milestone!

Have you been able to receive the enormity of it all?!

I told him it would take a while to take in.

It is rather enormous isn't it?

Especially since those are exactly the terms I used to describe the inequality in the relationship. That I would consider him in making life decisions, but he'd never give me a second thought. That was sort of a lynchpin assumption.

Now, mind you, I don't actually believe it was only me. That would be incredibly arrogant. But I do actually believe that he thought of me, and his commitment and responsibility to me.

No, it hasn't sunk in.

I feel blessed though. I don't care or trust lightly. I feel blessed that it is well placed and at least partially reciprocated.

And I pray daily for the strength of his marriage. Because it's his wife who has ties to this community. :)

At least I think so at the moment.

I'm even emboldened to think that other times I've thought he was an idiot, I may have misunderstood. At least sometimes.
