Weird T question

Posted by happyflower on May 13, 2005, at 9:54:33

My T is doing is acting strange, and I wonder what his problem is , but I don't want to pry. He goes to the bathroom right before our session and then goes again right after. Now this has happened the last 3 sessions. Another thing he is has a pillow he is using on has lower back when he is sitting. I don't want to ask him, do any of you what is wrong with him?

maybe a bladder infection,UTI, or kidney stones???

In any case, sounds like an uncomfortable health issue to me...

What is a UTI? We talked about kidney stones a couple of months ago comparing it to child birth, and he said he saw his friend go through it ( kidney stones). I wonder if he was talking about himself. HMMMMMM

What is really wierd if he has kidney stones, it seems like we keep haing these weird considences of interests. He has the exact painting on the wall in his waiting room that I have in my living room. It isn's a common painting either. A lot of weird commom stuff, like his sister b-day is the same as mine. It is starting to bug me how our lives are so parallal to each other. There are a ton of other stuff too. Just weird.

You should ask him and tell him what you've noticed. It brings your concern about him, and your attachment into the room. He'll probably ask you what you imagine, but it really might be a good discussion. Pretending there isn't anything going on gets in the way.

I've asked a couple of tough health questions of my therapist. Only one he didn't answer and he told me why. I have so many health issues to deal with in my life that I project this stuff on to him. It is part of my need to take care of him too.

It isn't prying if it is in the room with you.

I'm going through kidney stones right now. The pillow doesn't sound quite right. Or the length of time. Although they make you drink tons of water for ages. Forever really, but who's going to do that.

Ask him. It might be nothing after all. (nm) » happyflower

Hi happyflower,

Prostate health is a common concern for men over 50-55. Very important for them to stay on top of the potential problems, too. Is your T. in this age group? (My dad has been through this, and another friend, too.) Here's some info if you really want to get the basics down:

http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/enlarged_prostate.jsp

Now, don't scare yourself reading it. Remember, it could be something else as sunny suggested, and even if he has an enlarged prostate it doesn't equate to cancer and can be managed.

So strange you posted this...my T. (who is in his mid 50's) ALWAYS uses the bathroom before and after each client. I never thought much of it as we've both laughed about drinking massive amounts of coffee and water all day. I pretty much do the same.

And, my ex-T., poor guy, let slip during our termination session last summer that the reason I'd sensed he wasn't himself was because of some medical issues..."prostate stuff," that were worrying him. He assured me everything was okay, though. I say poor guy 'cause he was a bit young - at 45 last year - to even have to deal with it yet. May run in his family, though.

Of course, being as I love the man dearly, I still worry about it - that he's keeping up with his exams and such. He's a pdoc and freely admits he's the classic stereotype of a doctor who often takes care of his own health last :-( I comfort myself by assuming his wife nags him regularly and appropriately. Hope I'm right.

Maybe you could avoid mentioning the bathroom, and just ask casually about the pillow...maybe ask if he hurt his back and that you're worried about him...? Better than wondering, I say.

That is so strange becuase my T does the same thing, every time he goes to the bathroom right before and after my session and always says "I'll be right with you Rachel" and for some reason any change in that would freak me out. Isn't it strange how we sometimes crave routine? Even in the little strange things??

Hey you know, you're right, I never thought of that part. I would hate it if he changed that. And I can be so blunt (well, sometimes....) I'd probably insist on knowing why it was different before we started the session.

Can you imagine me blurting out in a demanding tone, "I need to know WHY you're not going to the bathroom?!"

Hope he never pulls that one....

Yes my T is 50, I think asking about the pillow might be a better idea. lol Thanks for the information, I need it for my DH. lol
