Changing faces.***trigger

Posted by terrics on March 10, 2005, at 18:25:32

I was in the E.R. the other night. I have been having lots of stress from my job, especially from my supervisor. I was in the E.R. because of my reaction to all of the stress...I was waiting for stitches because I did something dumb. How I let work get that far under my skin I will never know. HERE IS THE QUESTION: While lying on the stretcher I looked up and an oriental man was on a stretcher in front of me. I looked up again and his face had turned into my supervisor's face. I could not look up again. I could not bear looking at 'her' face. Has this happened to anyone? Is there a name for it? Thanks for any answers. terrics

That's never happened to me but it has happened to my mother. She believes it was a spiritual experience because the face of my deceased grandfather appeared on her infant ... but she was experiencing a lot of emotional traumas at the time... I'm sure it happens to a lot of people at different times, you know? BUt you must be under terrific strain for this to have happened, terrics. Had you purposely hurt yourself because of work?

That's terrible. It sounds abusive. Do you know what your rights are?

Hi Susan,

It makes me feel better when someone else thinks it is abusive.
I have an appt.with a lawyer on Thursday. I also have papers from the eeoc to fill out, but I am going to the lawyer first. I also plan on keeping my job even though I am suing. I have never, never thought of sueing anyone, but they really started this craziness. I have never suffered like this before (never even hospitalized except day treatmenttwo and a half yrs, ago ). Now I have been hospitalized X2 due to this. Once I get like I am now I get over the hurt, sadness, and anger, my head clears, and I really see what is happening and what happened, thus the lawsuit.
I appreciate you 'discussing' this with me as there is only one other person with whom I can discuss it because I don't want anyone at work to find out and my husband thinks that I am 'lucky' to still have my job. Work is still harassing me, but preparing for the lawsuit is keeping my mind off of it. Thanks again. terrics

Hi terrics,
Thanks for the heads-up. I haven't had as much time to read all the threads like I used to, so alerting me is a good idea.

I wish I had an answer for you. I don't know a name for that phenomenon, but I suspect that it was due to the stress you were under. It makes sense that your supervisor's face might appear if she was on your mind in some way. I suppose you could call it a hallucination, but I would classify it as mild. I don't think I would worry too much about it. It sounds like you were under tremendous stress.

Good for you for getting someone to advocate for you. I hope that goes well. Please take extra gentle care of yourself in this time. It sounds like the stress will not go away for awhile.

((((terrics))))
