Has anyone used a coach to help them move more towards their goals?
I'm not talking so much about a personal coach although I'm curious about that too.
Right now the "in" thing in the business world is to have a corporate/business coach (some would say "executive coach" but I'm not near that level!) and I talked to one recently. Just in the one session I realized more fully how much several emotional issues are getting in the way of where I want to go. Therapists just don't do anything for me in that area - I feel that they're too accusatory and don't have enough business knowledge. I'm afraid to tell the coach that I'm seeing a therapist although I know the therapist will approve of the coach. Coaching is really more than I can afford so am trying to come up with some ways of paying for it. I must say it was very *intense*. I think it's what I need for a while at least.
I'd like to hear others' experiences with coaching and how they compare it to therapy.

My therapist does coaching as well as therapy.
And he's done coaching stuff for me at my request.
The jury's out I think on how helpful it was. I think it gave me some strategies, but I don't seem to be able to implement them. I'm not sure if that's a topic for therapy, coaching, or something else entirely.
There's less regulation in coaching, so I suspect it's a lot more important to check out credentials. And I can tell from some of the professional magazines that it's being touted as a way of getting your full fee and not having to worry about reimbursement from insurance companies. But since it provides a needed service, I'm not sure that's a bad thing.
This is the end of the thread.
