Long one about my new therapist's office ... and here, what do people think of this .. the counsellor whom I've seen this year and saw briefly last year as well when I was first feeling conflicted about my T at that time, the one I totally f*cked up over, well this counsellor and I KNOW he doesn't have a degree because we talked about it, this guy is advertising himself in the phone book as a therapist .. isn't that fraudulent, or is therapist a catch-all term? AND BTW, he suggested to me in different ways that it would be okay if I "transferred" to him .. I mean, isn't it unusual to transfer to a counsellor? We're talking, there's no body here in my province that regulates counsellors. Isn't he being irresponsible AND puff-headed????

I think you should discuss your concerns about his credentials with your new therapist. If he's truly unlicensed and uncredentialled, perhaps you should look elsewhere. In either case, whether he's licensed and credentialled or not, if he can't manage to soothe your concerns about his skills and education I can't imagine therapy getting very far.
How can get therapy get anywhere if you feel contempt for his level of skill and education?

So let me get this straight. The T you are seeing NOW, doesn't even have a Bachelor's Degree? Not an advanced degree, NOTHING?????
Is this correct?

I say that I'm glad you didn't continue seeing him!
What kind of therapist, even if only self-proclaimed, would encourage you with a delusion?
So glad you found the new T. The office sounds comforting as does her attitude.
Sounds like you have more than one new rock to comfort you!
I'm very happy for you. Oh, and let me know how the Zoloft works for you in place of the Prozac.

Ah, ok. You aren't seeing this one. Good.
If there are no laws about it, I don't suppose there's anything to be done about an unlicensed therapist. I'd just put him out of your mind, and maybe lobby your state legislature to require credentials.

About your old counsellor, buyer beware. It's not your responsibilty, IMO.
About your new T, it sounds like a comfortable place, and you sound comfortable in it.
I, too, take my shoes off and make myself comfortable, always, in my T's office. I'm also almost 50. I sit cross-legged, I stretch my feet out to the end of the couch, I move around a lot, rarely put my feet on the floor. Part of this is because I am short, so sitting, my feet don't quite reach the floor.
I think I'll ask him about my body language. I have made a point of not trying to control it, and have told him so. I figured that I have spent so much time saying, not saying, avoiding the truth, saying only parts of things, etc. etc. etc., that I should let my body state its truths unimpeded by my stupid conscious mind.
Susan, I hope you connect with this new T.

Yes, the counsellor I've dumped. I had to, he's just getting distracting with his ego, this guy has an immense ego and I really don't like him very much, I believe very strongly from observation that he uses his practice to actively build his personal opinion of himself. In my opinion, someone in his profession should already have himself pretty much mapped out.
It's not that I don't believe he helps people, I'm sure he does and he's been somewhat helpful to me, but counselling in any case isn't enough for me.
Today is a very bad day for Susan. She just feels so bereft. It's hard, no self-confidence no joy.

This is VERY TRUE, it is something that Ive heard about and heard that T's with degrees recommend patients steer clear of. Unless the issues ae minor and you don't mind sharing with your 'friend' because the training they recieve is about equivalent to that. They are called a 'therapist' doing psychotherapy becasue they took a few week course and so now they legally can
