Therapy isn't doing jack! It feels like she tells me stuff I allready know. She's tried to go over relaxation technigues with me, but I've told her time and again that stuff doesn't work. I figure more stuff out on my own journaling and whatnot...She told me a while back that she doesn't know what else to do with me! Maybe I'm just too stubborn? Perhaps a new T? Getting ready to try some new meds, should I wait until I give them a trial to decide this???

My old therapist told me that she had taught me as much as she knew. But I was wicked dependent and I think she was afraid of what I would do if she referred me to someone else.
I knew that I needed to get to "deeper" stuff. And she did try once, but it was clear that her CBT background really didn't prepare her to do that.
Eventually I switched to a Psychodynamic therapist and have learned an awful lot in the last year and a half.
I wish I had listened to my old therapist when she started telling me that she didn't have more to offer me.
Different kinds of therapy can fill different needs at different times of your life.

What kind of T do you see? What kind of therapy?
I had to learn what my defenses are and learn to let some of them go. Would that help?

Yes and no, no "T" will necessarily give you answers, but psychodynamic T's will help get you there. They tend to work at a deeper level, if you will, more at unconscious motivations and feelings. Whatever road you choose, it's hard.

CBT therapists have a number of different handouts and worksheets and strategies for different symptoms. Once you have been through them all then there is nothing to be done but go through them again...
This is a problem I have encountered over and over.
Some therapists try to be a bit more flexable but I guess it is hard for them to justify that to their supervisors.
My reccomendation would be to try another variety of therapy if at all possible.

My opinion is if your T said she doesn't know what else to do with you it is time to find someone who does. What a thing to say to you :-/

I was initially referred to my current T for CBT - stress management. Anytime I mentioned anything in my past she told me it was irrelevant. She had me doing alot of homework type exercises, none of which worked at all, except some of it was helpful for anxiety.
Fortunately, she saw that it just wasn't getting anywhere and really without saying anything to me we just sort of evolved into psychodynamic therapy. She does both and I've come to discover that she actually prefers the longer term therapy so I sometimes wonder whether she abandoned CBT with me too quickly, although she still incorporates aspects of it where she thinks it will help. I do know she feels that relationship issues are best addressed in longer term therapy.
Later on when we talked about how things changed, she just said she could tell that CBT just wasn't going to work with me - she said I just wasn't "buying " it.
CBT was good at helping me handle anxiety. It was totally useless in getting me to adopt a more positive view of myself, although I've heard it can be quite helpful for others.
I think different people respond to different things. Psychodynamic therapy is long and slow and hard and costly, but my T is very certain it's what will work best for me if I can stick with it, and most of the time I agree with her.
It sounds to me like you maybe need to be exploring other alternatives.

Yeah - hey don't get me wrong, I have learned some very valuable skills in CBT. It is also a constant learning experience to figure how to use the right skill at the right time. But, yeah, ultimately unsatisfying...
IMO
