Wonderful and mysterious thing happened today

Posted by Susan47 on November 18, 2004, at 1:48:02

Has any woman reading this, ever had the experience of looking up and seeing another woman watching you, with this look on her face like, "I know you but I'd never tell you that; so this is who you are". That happened to me at work today and it was like a very odd flash of familiarity went through this woman's eyes and then she smiled kindly at me. Did she see herself in me, or someone else? It was actually a very mystical experience, is the best way I could describe it. I was so busy though that, like everything else lately, it passed in and out of my consciousness and it's only now that I'm really trying to imprint the memory.
My life is like that lately; stuff happens and I completely forget about it until it flashes up and then I have to decide: remember, or forget? And if the decision is, "remember", then I have to work at it.
Oi.

geez, you're EXACTLY like me in that regard!

Why do we have to "work" on everything??? Why are we so freakin' anal !!!???!!!

Can't take compliments, CAN'T take constructive criticism.... can't have a freakin' passing thought without obsessing over what it MEANS !!

Whew... thanks for letting me vent... pretty obvious I feel you on this one, eh?

Sometimes I see a woman who looks to me a kindred spirit. I feel I can look in her eyes and we'll connect, and we can exchange that look without any boosheet involved, only kindness and understanding.

I do this without reserve, and smile, and give. It makes me feel great. And the rare time this gift is rebuffed is greatly outnumbered by the number of times it is accepted and returned.

Dinah is an awfully odd name for a man. Have you looked in your pants?

It's funny you say this Dinah. I'm female, but I just don't get on with women. Not at all. It's like I have nothing in common with them. I really don't *get* them. If I'm at a party and you want to find me, head for the guys every time. (Not that I'm flirting or whatever. I'd be *doing* something like playing pool or whatever. I'm good at doing. I'm bad at talking. And I'm especially bad at talking to women.

Shorte, that was pretty funny. (nm)

I find that the older I get and the more women friends I have, the more of a connection I make with all of them, from three to ninety-three. It's been tremendous, really. A terrific journey, and because any female is having a fabulous time with her male friends and acquaintances, please don't discount women as having the ability to empathize and be your friend. There's just nothing else like it. Not that I've found yet, anyway. I wish I wish I wish .. and speaking of men, here's a new subject maybe I should start a thread on gentle men.

yep, in my "spare" time I'd rather be working with tools and equipment than whatever those things are "typical" women do

My observation here at Babble is that a good many of the women here have been more comfortable either in the company of guys since childhood, or doing things the WWII to Viet Nam era society considered "boy" or "man" things.

There are, of course, women here who more closely resemble that old societal "feminine" lady, but communicating in this environment seems to remove some of the preconceived notions which occur meeting people in person, especially in one or the other's realm.

Thus far I have not had any problems communicating here, nor do I anticipate any.

if this makes no sense to you, consider the source

I cut my fingernails short, really short. I refinish furniture for fun and to have affordable things I love. I cook, for a living in fact, but not restaurant cooking. I ride a bicycle. I wear earrings and lipstick, love cashmere, make handbags, and can fix things if they don't have a motor.

I'm comfortable with powertools.

I am a heterosexual woman, I really like men (I'm married to one!). I also love - and I do *not* mean sexually - women.

When I was younger, women were competition and scared me, or I had to scare them. Now, I just like us, like talking, hiking, doing stuff with other women, not to the exclusion of men, but I love the company of women. We take in foreign students and it's great for me when it's a woman.

Men are great, they're men, with the attendant sensibilities. But my husband/companion/best friend, the person I spend the most time with, is a man.

ShortE, who is very very tired and maybe should have written this another time.
