Hi I am Irene.
Just posted for the first time on Social too.
I am in need of a therapist. I have not seen one for about six year. I have atypical depression among other delightful diagnosis.
I stopped going to the therapist I was seeing because well mostly his head got too big for me. This ego problem was first pointed out to me by someone else who knew him and then by my closest friends at the time (one being a psychiatric nurse).
Anyway I saw someone new for a short time but that did not work out. Then I was so depressed I had not the ability to find anyone new. After some time I did not think that talking to a therapist would help any as my depression has been so bad for several years there was not much to talk about. Not much to work with.
Now I am feeling a bit better and feel the need for direction. Also potentially could discuss viable things in life. How can I find someone? The best I can do is look at who my insurance covers and just pick. This does not seem like a way to find a therapist. I have thought this for months. My father just gave me an article from Consumer Reports that says much of the same. It is found that people get better results when they get a recommendation from a friend or doctor. I have no one to ask. At least no one I would trust their judgment about this too.
Any suggestions??
Help!
Irene

I just went to Geoogle and entered "How to find a therapist" and lots of sites came up. Maybe that would give you some direction?
Could you ask your family doctor, too?
I wish I could be more helpful.
