from my T today. I was really surprised at the warmth and good wishes she put into it. I spent the entire session weeping and carrying on about drinking and work and anxiety and panic, and when I left she gave me this lovely gift of a hug.
p.s. we think my hormones have gone batty and are taking me along for the ride.

That is so terrific! I'm guessing it's easier when it's woman to woman.

Yes - nothing suggestive, and she's really good at followup. Just a good, strong clench. She's going to call me tomorrow and asked me to email or call with any crises. I am lucky (I hav been saying that a lot lately).

I'm so glad for you. I'm sure that felt really good and appropriate. Well-timed too.
Be well.

I'm glad your T was able to comfort you when you needed it. She sounds great. My T has initiated hugs a few times, and I know if I asked her for one she'd give it (although I haven't had the guts to do so yet!). It can be such an important part of the relationship and the therapy, providing that both parties are comfortable. I'm glad my T is, and yours too. :)

Hugs are so helpful. My old T would often ask me if I would like a hug after a hard session. He seemed quite comfortable. My new T is very standoffish and I can't even imagine him hugging his kids. Time will tell. I'm glad for you...it aways made me feel like they weren't scared of me.

And the woman at work who wasn't speaking to me since last Friday apologized this morning and gave me ANOTHER hug. So I'm crying again.

They are bewildered, overwhelmed, I-don't-deserve-being-treated-this-well kind of tears. And wistful tears.
This is the end of the thread.
