I told my therapist last Thursday that I love her
(http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/psycho/20040716/msgs/369229.html for the whole story). She asked me what love is to me. I told her there were many kinds of love. Love for a lover, for a mother, for a daughter, for a sister. She told me well I'm none of those, what would love for me be. I told her it didn't have a specific label. We were also joking about therapists not accepting gifts and I told her I thought of knitting her something only that I don't know how to knit.Well, I thought of something I CAN give her. I'm going to print out this poem (that I'm writing myself) and frame it (with a Dollar Store frame, so that she can't refuse it on the base that it cost money) and give it to her and see if she takes it.
This is a WORK IN PROGRESS. The final draft will be edited in this first post on Tuesday night.
This is what I have so far:
LOVE FOR A THERAPIST
To wake up one day and learn
That it's okay to feel pain.
That it's okay to feel love,
that it's okay to feel.To wake up one day and meet
face to face with acceptance.
Unconditionally safe.
Unconditionally cared.
Unconditionally. To wake up one day with renewed hope,
to wake up one day with a glint in one's eye,
to wake up one day with permission to cry,
to wake up one day and get a second chance.Thankful.
Appreciative.
Accepted.
Grateful. To wake up one day and learn the truth.
That one was okay all along.
That is love for a therapist.
