What is the difference between CBT & DBT? Which one (or what approach) would be more appropriate for someone with GAD, social phobia and AvPD?

DBT combines CBT with eastern philosophy, lots of validation, and mindfulness techniques. It was developed for people with lots of suicidal ideation and self injury. Therefore it places a bit emphasis on being able to tolerate painful emotion.
Around here, DBT is only offered in an intensive day treatment program, or inpatient. :(
But I'm guessing that anywhere, you're more likely to be offered DBT if you have problem with regulating your emotions.
So if you don't have a mood or personality disorder, I'm guessing you're more likely to be offered CBT.
I think that DBT could actually be useful for anyone though.
