Starting Strattera for my 8yr old daughter diagnosed with inattentive ADD. Doctor suggests starting immediately with 40mg. We just started reading this forum today - is this dose really high to start? Our doctor said their is no reason to start gradually, that will just delay the effects.
Comments? Any similar experiences?
Thanks!!

I started Strattera when I was 45. I started at 10 and went up 10 each week. I now take 80. Even at that rate I had some pretty bad nausea. When Strattera was new (last year) there were lots of posts on the meds board about people who didn't start slowly having a lot of trouble.
I would argue with the Doc and start slowly.
P.S. I really like Strattera (I take it for depression)

I would check this out on the medication board, but in the meantime I would start slow. If Doc does not agree find a new doc. Sometimes mom's do know best. terrics You can also check online. I get alot of med info there. pps I am a school nurse and use lots of ADD meds. With the younger kids the docs usually start slow.

Hi, there are several boards on this site, and I think you'll get the best response from the medication board, (plain) Psycho-Babble. You can follow the links at the top of this page or go directly to your post at:

Hope this helps!
