After years of waxing and waning GAD, depression, OCD, and possibly some ADD, I have scheduled an appointment for a brain scan at one of Dr. Amen's clinics. He has written many books on ADD and anxiety/depression, and is supposedly the main pioneer of nuclear SPECT scanning in the nation. The scans show blood flow to different areas of the brain to aid in diagnosing the problem and tailoring medication to help. Has anyone else had a scan at Amen's clinic (or elsewhere?). Was it helpful? Thanks

I'd love to get it done, but can't afford it. Let us know how it goes!

After talking with my doctor, looks like I'm postponing the brain scan until a later time since I recently started a new med and am discontinuing another. My doctor thinks the timing would be better when I've stablized on the new meds regime. (I know I am lucky to be able to afford such a scan, and I wish everyone could, or that I was rich enough to buy everyone scans! We all have experienced so much suffering and all of us deserve the best treatment possible. Life is truly unfair, and those of us who suffer know this all too well.)

Pierce,
If you look back on the main babble board a bit (maybe a year or so) you'll find a number of posts on Amen's clinic. I'm not sure whether any of those posters had actually tried it. The key question seemed to be whether this technology was advanced enough to be diagnostic on an individual level (ie the amount of differences shown between people with different diagnoses was greater than the individual variation within diagnoses) and whether there was any independant research backing of Amen's claims. As I recall there were plenty of posts on both sides.
