could someone be coercing me?

Posted by den2 on April 10, 2003, at 20:09:13

I have read that brainwashing someone is simple and is listed in the DSM 4 as a factor due to Dissociatve disorder NOS.(coercive persuasion) I am afraid that someone or some people have brainwashed me in the past and am afraid I am currently being brainwashed(ex. a neighbor that dislikes me maybe coering me somehow. Could be? could be possible if I am subjected to it. Since I have a diagnoses of muliple dissociative disorders therefor I could also have the other diossocative disorders NOS like coercive persuasuion, trance and possesion trance, ganser syndrome? I'd like all the information out there on this topic. thanks, den.

Somehow I don't see "brainwashing" listed in the DSM even though the concept is certainly related to recognized conditions such as "Stockholm Syndrome" (when hostages become sympathetic with their kidnappers).

However, I can't think of any circumstances where brainwashing would be "simple" and I seriously doubt if your neighbor could attempt such a thing without your knowledge. If you're seriously worried about this, I would suggest you talk to a psychologist to determine where these frightening ideas are coming from.

Hello Den2,

There is no way to know for certain if this is truly happening but there is a much better chance that you a suffering from some sort of paranoia which can be helped. I have suffered from extreme paranoia that followed a manic attack and I know how real the fear can be but there are drugs to help along with counseling.

good luck!
