When I scheduled my interview for today, I didn't realize I was scheduling it for a hour before the swearing in. So when I got there, they were all standing in front of the tv watching it. They apologized, but I said I wanted to watch it too. So we sat there for an hour and watched it. They were cracking me up with their comments, not that they were disrespectful or anything. We all got tears in our eyes when Aretha started singing - after we giggled about her big bow hat! We all agreed only Aretha could get away with a hat like that. It was fun! Did anyone else watch?

Yes.
President Obama was wonderful, saying things unheard from power for years.
Things like....
>To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds. And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.And Pastor Lowry (if I have his name right) gave a truly remarkable and moving Benediction.
We were all in tears by the end.
Without doubt, the greatest day since the end of WWII.

That part struck me too. I've always felt it is the responsibility of the strong to care for the weak. He also spoke about how people should be able to earn a livable wage and receive decent medical care, which stood out to me too. These things have always been points of importance to me, even before my current situation of unemployment (which equals no medical insurance).
Maybe this should have gone on the Politics board, but I wasn't thinking of politics so much as it being an impressive historical event.

I also feel for Kennedy with metastic brain tumor and his 91 year old senator friend who had to be ushered out. Yes maybe a topic for polictics but it's social also. Love Phillipa

I am doing something called "pay it forward". I do something for someone else and ask them to do the same for another person and "keep paying it forward". My first, this week, was to show a young man where the post office is. I had him follow me to the building. He promised to do something for someone else that day! wooohoooooooooo
